Stop At: Drobak, Oslo 1440 Norway
The picturesque village of Drøbak is a traditional, Norwegian seaside-town with white wooden villas, green gardens and fruit orchards. It has 13000 inhabitants, a lovely, white-painted wooden church from 1776, and a beautiful statue of three mermaids made by the sculptor Reidar Finsrud
Duration: 30 minutes
Pass By: Oscarsborg Fortress, Drobaksundet, Oslo 1443 Norway
Oscarsborg Festning is the country’s most famous military fortress. Built in the 1890s, it was the site of one of the most important events in Norwegian history: the sinking of the German warship Blucher during the German invasion of Norway on 9 April 1940. From Drøbak we will have an excellent view of the fortress island and hear the story of the events of that dramatic night.
Pass By: Moss church, Kirkegata 5, Moss 1513 Norway
The town Moss has 32,000 citizens and is situated just inside the beautiful island of Jelöy. There are several art galleries and at Jelöy, facing the Oslo fjord is the well known Refnes Gods Restaurant. In shared tours, we do not drive out there, but directly onto the large and comfortable ferry.
Stop At: Karljohansvern, 3183 Horten, Norway
We take a short stop to see the highlights in this fascinating Karjolhansvern, the seat of the Norwegian Navy. We will visit the Norwegian Navy Museum, which contains an extraordinary collection of marine vessels and artifacts, detailing the history and growth of the Norwegian Navy from the 1600s onwards.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Midgard Historical Centre, Birkelyveien 9 Borre, Horten 3184 Norway
Opened in 2000, this museum houses a fascinating collection of Viking jewelry and artefacts. There are also immersive multi-media films providing insights into aspects of Viking life and culture. The museum includes an exhibition centre, as well as an outdoor area where both adults and children can learn to play Viking games such as axe throwing! About 100 metres across an open field is a beautifully reconstructed wooden Viking hall.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Munch's House, Edvard Munchs gate 25, Asgardstrand 3179 Norway
We will drive through the small coastal village of Asgardstrand, where the famous Norwegian expressionist painter, Edvard Munch, would spend his summers between 1885 and 1905. Many of his paintings feature the village’s narrow streets, white houses and rocky beach. We will point out his old house (now a museum) and the famous “bridge” where the painting “Pikene pa broen” (“The Maids on the Bridge”) was painted.
Duration: 10 minutes
Stop At: Viking Ship Museum, Huk Avenue 35, Oslo 0287 Norway
The Viking Ship museum contains three authentic ships from the 9th century. These were originally used for the Viking burial ceremony and were excavated by Norwegian archaeologists more than a hundred years ago. The Vikings were buried with all the earthly goods they might need in the afterlife, including their ships. These exhibitions are unique in the world. If our guests have visited the Viking Ship House before, the visit can be skipped or alternated to one of the other museums in the area.
