About this activity
Beach cruiser rentals are a cheap, easy and fun way to explore the Outer Banks at a leisurely pace. Beach cruisers can be picked up directly at our shop, which is located on the Beach Road in Nags Head. There is a dedicated bike path adjacent to the shop, which makes for easy and safe riding. Our bicycle fleet is comprised of very high quality, single speed, coaster break bicycles from Fuji and Phat. Each rental includes optional equipment such as a helmet (required for riders under 16), a basket, a lock and led lights for visibility. We have bike mechanics on site to maintain the fleet, and we have a no questions asked bike replacement policy should you have a mechanical problem with your rental. Bike delivery is also available.
Some great site seeing is available heading north or south from the shop. You can cruise north on a designated bike path to visit the Wright Memorial, a National Park celebrating the first manned flight in history. Leaving the Wright Brothers Monument heading west down Colington Road, you can follow a designated bike path through some maritime woods to First Street in Kill Devil Hills. This leisurely, flat ride meanders north to Bay Drive which fronts the Croatan Sound. Stop at the Dock Street boat ramp and watch the boats come and go. You can retrace your path to return to the shop.
Heading south from the shop, the bike bath runs for 11 miles all the way to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. En route, you will pass three iconic piers, The Nags Head Fishing Pier, Jennette's Pier--which has an on site aquarium--and The Outer Banks Fishing Pier which has a lively deck scene. Between Nags Head and Jennette's Piers you will pass by Jockey's Ridge State Park, home of the largest sand dune on the East Coast. Head to the Park Headquarters by turning west on Hollowell St. Climb the dunes if you are up to the challenge! At the terminus of the bike path south of Outer Banks Pier, you can cross Hwy 12 and see Bodie (locals pronounce it like "body") Island lighthouse, which still warns passing ocean going vessels of the hazards of the Outer Banks!
This is flat terrain and not strenuous riding.
The weekly bike rental last for 7 consecutive days.
The departure point opens at 7 am and closes at 5 PM. Bikes may be stored on premise for future use.
