Aquabus Panama City Tour

About this activity
The AQUABUS is the only amphibious vessel in Central America and it provides a once in a life time opportunity to view Panama City from land and sea. It is a very unique vehicle that drives through city streets and then plunges into the Bay of Panama and the entrance to the Panama Canal providing for a fun and unforgettable journey. This amphibious vehicle came from the concept of the DUKWs which were used by the US military during World War II to transport goods and troops to places that required a wet landing. The name DUKW was given by the General Motor Company, company that built the first prototype. This wonderful 2 hour city tour allows you to understand the evolution of Panama from the colonial to the modern city full of skyscrapers from a different perspective. It will run on scheduled departures at 10:30 am or 2:00 pm. (check on BOOK NOW for schedule, which depends on tide conditions). Cinta Costera: Enjoy your first dip in the water. Take a look at the city with tall skyscrapers and the Casco Viejo. Panama Viejo: Pass along Panama’s first city. Watch the ruins of what was once the only city in Panama’s Pacific side. It was founded on August 15, 1519 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro Arias de Ávila. The city was destroyed by a devastating fire, when the infamous Henry Morgan sacked it on January 28, 1671. Casco Antiguo: Casco Antiguo was established on January 21, 1673, as the second city in Panama. It was built following the near-total destruction of the original Panamá city, Panamá Viejo in 1671. Nowadays it still maintains and keeps its original architecture and plazas. In 1997, it was designated a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Causeway, Amador: The best views of the city’s skyline can be seen from the Causeway. Prepare for your second splash! While in the water, you will be at the entrance of the Panama Canal in the Pacific side. Take a look at the Bridge of the Americas and observe large ships waiting for their turn to transit. Administration Building: Drive along the administrative offices of the Panama Canal. The Panama Canal Administration Building was inaugurated on July 15, 1914, exactly a month before the Canal itself. Since then, this legacy from the past has continued to dominate the Balboa area from atop its rolling hill.
