About this activity
Today, Paris is the City of Light – the home of fashion and the center of art and culture in France. But it wasn’t always that way. Paris has a long, tragic history of murder and execution, of rampant disease among the lower classes and of bitter wars fought against a corrupt monarchy.
This nighttime walking tour of Paris’ ghosts, mysteries and legends takes place under a cloak of darkness, winding down alleyways and cutting through the hushed silence of the night. You will go to the sites of some of Paris’ darkest hours – the Place de la Vert Gallant, St Germain de Auxerrois (where some say 30,000 were killed in the St Bartholomew’s Day massacre in 1572) and the Palais du Justice (where those found guilty by the court were routinely tortured and executed before live audiences).
You will travel through areas wracked by the plague, the French Revolution, the Paris Commune and Nazi rule. You will learn about the characters that molded the city, from Napoleon and Marie Antoinette to Henry IV and the serial killers that once stalked these very streets.
The Ghosts, Mysteries and Legends Night Walking Tour of Paris offers a rare opportunity to glimpse a side of Paris you won’t see advertised on postcards. It’s a chance to learn a little more about the City of Light and those who loved, hated, died and killed there.
Sites visited on the walking tour:
• Place de la Vert Gallant
• St Germain de Auxerrois
• La Fontaine de la Croix du Trahoir
• Rue de la Ferronnerie
• Square of the Innocents
• The Rat Trap Shop (as seen in the movie Ratatouille)
• Tour St Jacques
• La Fontaine du Palmier
• The River Seine
• The Conciergerie
• Ile de la Cité
• Palais du Justice
• Hotel Dieu
• Hotel de ville

Loved our walking tour. Got to see how beautiful Paris was at night in the safety of a group. Hoped the stories would be scary but still very entertaining and kind of historical. Would definitely recommend. Loved our guide Alejandro. He added to the enjoyment to the stories with his enthusiasm.
The tour was very interesting and informative! Thanks to Dianne, who was a wonderful and engaging guide!
If you want to discover more about the darker and more macabre sides of Paris, I recommend taking this tour. If you are fortunate to get the excellent, knowledgeable and humorous Vic, you will have a wonderful evening - she really made the tour exceptional. When we asked her sidebar questions she really knew her history and was enthusiastic to talk about it. We quite enjoyed the historical stories, facts and occasional splashes of trivia that are plentiful. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as the tour lasts two hours and covers a lot of ground from the Île-de-Cité to Les Halles to Hotel da Ville. This tour left us wanting to learn more about the history of Paris and hopefully see this tour expand to the Latin Quarter and Montmartre! Check this tour out!
Tour guide was very informative and learned about the underworld histories of Paris.
Good and fun tour around Paris! The guide was very knowledgable, in this walking tour you'll hear stories about some strange people who lived in Paris, some nobles and the fate of the cemeteries such as Les innocents. It's good to gain some historical background.
This was great!
Knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic guide. The tour is more historical than ghostly but is definitely worth it. You walk around to various sites and learn about some of the darker days in Paris and France. Because the tour is at night, you get a unique and beautiful view of the buildings.
We loved this walking tour around Paris! Our guide was delightful, friendly, and told very interesting stories. I would highly recommend this tour if you have never been to Paris and want to hear some of the darker stories behind such a historical city.
Our tour was on Friday Oct 13th. Great night for a tour! Our tour guide was very nice but somewhat difficult to understand, very heavy French accent . She smoked almost the entire time (like alot of Parisians) But would have been nicer without the smoking. Loved seeing Paris at night!
It was simply a walking tour at night. We learned mostly already known history in a monotone manner. Nothing spooky.
