I've always wanted to visit Monet's home in Giverney and I finally was able to do so in September. The gardens were still in bloom - beautiful flowers in a beautiful setting. I am in a Rose Club back home and it was special to see so many roses in the garden. I wish I was able to identify the rose names but "fragrant", and "beautiful" were good enough for me on my visit. Loved that abundance of perennials placed together -- I took a lot of pictures for my gardening reference. I can only imagine how colorful and magical it must be in peak season! The Water Garden blew me away - even though not many plants were in bloom. It was still lush and serene. It was so amazing to walk through and see how this magical place inspired Monet. Definitely saw the garden through his eyes in all his paintings. I saw how the scenery changes at different hours and how the weather changes the colors for you. Beginning to understand how painters are so adept at pulling you into their world and letting you see what they are seeing. The house was very quaint and it was delightful to see so many of Monet's non-famous paintings throughout the house. I was surprised by the amount of Japanese art that he collected but it was interesting to know this other side of him. Originally planned to take the train to Giverney on our own but opted to go for the bus trip with entrance ticket/ 2 hour duration. It was worth it - bus ride was pleasant and the guide led you to the House and gave you instructions on when to go back to the bus. They really are punctual. It was still busy when we were there but when will it not be busy. There must have been about a dozen tour buses while we were there. Be patient and mindful with all the other travelers - they are all there for the same reason you are. The only regret was not taking the longer 5 hour tour -- we had 2 hours to go through the house and gardens and be back to the bus. I will be booking the longer trip next time -- it includes lunch in the village and a snack. I would have loved to have wandered around the village.
Everything was ok, our Guide Victor, very professional The place is really pleasant and the house and gardens , beautiful
Comfy bus ride in and out. Professionally maintained gardens and home museum. However...if you've ever seen a lily pond, weeping willow or old colonial before...well, then you've seen this before too.
This tour was excellent.. The Overview of the details of what we would see was given prior to arriving. It allowed us to focus on seeing the gardens, take pictures and have a better idea of what we were seeing. This trip allowed independent viewing once we arrived which was perfect. One could linger were we liked or move at our own pace. We were not constrained by the wishes of a small group or flying passed areas we wished more time. During the half day tour there is only time to see the house and gardens. If one wants to explore the village also, you would need the whole day tour. We chose the half day tour because of time restraints in our schedule. Would definitely do thia again.
No visit to view Monet's art should be complete without a visit to Giverny. Our trip was well organized with sufficient amount of time to view the house, gardens and of course the lily pond. I would highly recommend the Viator sponsored trip.
What a highlight for a short trip to Monet’s garden at Giverny. The commentary along the way was informative and the bus driver was terrific. The garden was magical (even with the crowds)
We were lucky to have sunny and 60 degree temps. The garden flowers were still lovely in mid October. Taking a bus tour was an easy non stressful way to travel to Giverny. The 5 hour tour was just enough time to walk the gardens, see the house, and visit the gift shop before walking back to the bus. There was no traffic problems on this Sunday. A weekday or holiday could be rushed if the hit traffic.
It was a nice trip to the gardens. It was a beautiful afternoon which meant there were many people visiting. We could have used a little bit more time there. The bus was very nice. The guide gave useful information and was very clear about meeting times and locations.
Giverny is gorgeous and well worth the trip, but the half day option feels very rushed. We did the audio-guided tour, which was fine. Our bus guides were a bit brusque. The site is spectacular; this particular tour was just average.
Worth your time. Don't miss this one.
