Stop At: The Paris Catacombs, 1 Avenue du Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy, 75014 Paris France
By the 17th century, the cemeteries in Paris were overflowing. And so, the solution became to place the corpses' remains in the tunnels that existed beneath the streets of Paris since the 13th century. Originally, the French Catacombs were mines or ossuaries for extracting the limestone that built Paris. As the city expanded, it eventually covered areas with mines underneath. Sound like bad planning? That's because it was not planned at all. Many of these mines were abandoned and undocumented. The solution to bury the dead underground fixed more than simply the lack of cemetery space. The estimated six million dead bodies actually reinforced the mines.

Great time in this tour. Our guide Leo was super kind and knowleable.. she has so much history and stories to share making our trip so worth the money
Our tour guide was so enthusiastic about the subject and very well-informed. Great to share in somebody's passion! The ability to skip the line was crucial! Book ahead. The line wrapped around the block and most would have not gotten in. Also, the tour we took allows you to see parts of the catacombs that non-tour individuals do not get access to.
Gabrielle (or Gabriella can't remember sorry) was amazing she told us great information about all the history of the catacombs with pictures and stories. the extra cost for the skip the lines is totally worth it and you get taken to an area that is only for groups. Although the group was fairly big (20 maybe) she made sure that everyone heard her and saw the pictures The only thing was we were told to meet by a station and her sign wasn't very big so we thought we were in the wrong area. Other than that the tour is totally worth it 100% recommend!!
Our tour was with only 4 people so it was like having a private tour with our guild, Leo. She was so informative about not only the history, but also the bones themselves. We loved this tour! No matter the weather it is comfortable and dry in the caves. Don’t miss out...you will never see something like the Catacombs again. Mind-blowing!
This tour was fantastic!! Our guide, Leo was amazing and so informative!! This tour was way more than I expected. Highly recommended!!
This tour was amazing!!! Gabrielle our tour guide was prompt and friendly and gave us the absoulute coolest info on the catacombs. If you are planning on taking this tour definitely try and book her. She was the best tour guide we had throughout Paris
Enjoyed the information that Gabriela shared with the group. Fascinating details, along with glimpses to fenced off areas.
Leo was our guide and she was wonderful! She was so knowledgeable and had many interesting facts to share with our group. Any question one of our group members asked, Leo knew the answer. The ability to skip the huge, long line to enter the catacombs was a big plus!
Leo was an incredible tour guide. She was so knowledgeable and passionate - she created an amazing and exciting environment. I was skeptical of buying a tour on this site but it was so worth it.
This is a long review because that’s how much I love this tour. If you looking for the short version, skip to the last paragraph. If you are looking for an offbeat and memorable experience in Paris, then surely you must visit the catacombs. Now I know some of you reading this may worry that it’s too macabre, or that you may wind up trapped in the Necropolis, never to return. First of all, the scariest part of the catacombs will be the 5-hour plus wait in line if you do not take the Skip the Line tour, and that’s before you get to see any of the cool stuff! Another thing is at the beginning and end of the tour, you’ll be walking down a bunch of stairs (when you enter) and up some stairs when you leave. To avoid getting dizzy, I suggest holding onto the handrail, and periodically look up when you have firm footing. When you keep looking at your feet for a long time, you can get a little light-headed. Third, as much as I hoped that a bunch of skeletons might jump out and scare us living folks, *spoiler warning* no such thing did happen. In fact, you’re more likely to be bothered if you are a skull or femur bone, as foolish people did try to steal these in the past. I’m sure those people are cursed now. This tour gets 5 stars is because of Georgia. We were very lucky to have her. At the meet-up location, she introduced herself to every single person that showed up, and charmed us with her self-deprecating British humor. During the tour, Georgia shared with us her passion for history and the French Revolution in particular (also on the Roman catacombs to an extent). It was a magical mixture of enlightening and entertaining, with humor to balance the horrors of history. Most impressively, she made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe every step of the way, and ensured no one fell behind. Everyone needs a Georgia in their lives. This tour is not too crowded because they control the number of people they let in, due to limited oxygen supply and all that. You also get to see exclusive locations that regular visitors don’t get to access. Enjoy the VIP treatment! Won’t spoil what you see here, but aren’t you curious? In conclusion, excellent tour. You’re paying for 0 wait time, a pro tour guide (Georgia, if you’re reading this, I know by now you’re partying hard with the cool kids), and access to secret locations most visitors don’t get to see. Just make sure you’ve got enough battery juice on your camera (just no flash) and you’re good to go. Have fun!
My sons loved the tour and said the guide was awesome! They enjoyed the guided tour and hearing interesting facts from the guide.
Avi was a great tour guide! Very informative, funny and well organized. Highly recommend the skip the line option. We saw the ticket line wrapped around the block and then some. Would definitely do this again.
