Stop At: Muyil, on Federal Highway 307 Chanyaxche Mexico
If you want to get to know the flora and fauna of the region, this trip is perfect for you.
We will start our day with a visit to the unique archaeological zone – Muyil, a hidden gem in the Mayan jungle. It is not difficult to meet monkeys hidden in the tropical forest.
It is a settlement that thanks to its geographical location maintains a long continuity of existence. The first evidence comes from the pre-classical period (300-50 BC), when the inhabitants also settled in northern and southern Belize. In the classical period there was noted a significant population growth and the Muyil relationship with the Yucatan Peninsula. This led directly to the growth of Muyil and construction of new buildings that are currently preserved.
After a walk in the rainforest, we will go to the lagoon of 7 colors named after the delicate shades of blue between its waters’ depths.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Lake Bacalar, Bacalar Mexico
The name Bacalar derives from the Mayan phrase „Sian Ka’an Bakhalal”, which means „the place where the heaven is born”.
It is located in the south of the Mexican Quintana Roo state, which has become a popular place for eco-tourism and provides a place of relaxation for all visitors.
In terms of location, this beautiful place is just 40 kilometers north of Chetumal (state capital) and about 335 kilometers [south] from Cancun (3 hours and 40 minutes by car). In these crystal-clear waters you can enjoy the sunshine, which adorns and illuminates the whole place.
After arrival, we are going to eat a local lunch and then visit “Fort San Filipe de Bacalar”, also known as “St. Filip Bacalar “, which is located in the historic center of the city.
Next, we will get on the boat and sail into the depths of the Bacalar Lagoon, where we will see three different Cenotes:
Cenote Bruja, also known as the Witch’s, is the deepest cenote (over 100 meters deep). Cenote Esmeralda is known for its deep shade of blue color and the cenote Cocalitos, whose substrate is made of stromatolites (or living stones), rock formations composed of thin laminates of calcium carbonate precipitated from seawater as a side effect of cyanobacterial life.
Feel the thrill of feeling like a pirate. The lagoon consists of water fragments joining Rio Hondo with the Bacalar Lagoon, which were the place of terrifying pirates’ battles. Later during the day we will reach the Pirate Channel and the Birds Island. There will be free time for a bath, Mayan spa and relax.
Thanks to its beautiful tropical climate and crystal-clear water, Laguna Bacalar offers its guests many attractions and possible adventures to discover.
