About this activity
Chichen Itza in Maya means "Mouth of the well of water witches". On this tour, you''ll first be picked up from your hotel and head to this great archaeological site. It is one of the major archaeological sites of the Yucatan Peninsula. With your guide, walk the main building called Ku Kul Khan Castle as well as El Caracol, also known as the Observatory, the Group of the Thousand Columns, Church, Temple of Venus, Temple of the Jaguar and the Ball Court, the largest built throughout Mesoamerica. Learn all about the Maya culture and each of the buildings on a 2-hour guided tour.
Continue on to Cenote Ik Kil which is located a few kilometers from Chichen Itza. Here, you can take a refreshing swim. The cenote has a depth of 60 meters and, from the surface to the water, its height is 25 meters. Cenotes were sacred places for the Mayan culture and were considered the road to the underworld. You will have a great time here and then head to the last stop on your tour, the Coba Ruins.
Coba, in Maya means "Murky Water". The ruins are located west of the coast of Tulum. At its peak, Coba had a population of about 50,000 cohabitants and an area of eighty square miles, but on the tour you will just see two square kilometers which are the ones that are still preserved and rebuilt. The rest is hidden in the dense Yucatan jungle. You will be able to see its main pyramid called Nohoch Mul and other buildings such as the Coba Group, two ball games, their trails and Sacbé or white road to the Mayan people.
Your full-day tour ends with hotel drop-off.

When you first see the ruins of Chichén Itza it will stop you in your tracks, they are incredible. I could have spent days exploring it. The structures are amazing but the stone carving is even more impressive. I highly recommend the early arrival to avoid the mid day heat and crowds. Stopping at Ik Kil cenote for a swim and lunch is a perfect break between Chichén Itza and Coba. Coba has more of an Indiana Jones adventure feel to it. It’s less developed and restored than Chichén but just as impressive. You can climb around on some of the ruins at Coba. What pushed this trip over the top was Joel and Carlos. Joel is the guide, Carlos is the driver. Joel’s knowledge of the history, architecture, and culture of the areas is mind-blowing. There’s not a question he couldn’t answer and his enthusiasm was evident. Don’t be put off by the amount of time spent traveling between sites, Joel makes it fly by. Carlos focused on the road but was always helpful and I always felt comfortable in the van. They both went above and beyond my expectations. If you take this tour you MUST request Joel and Carlos.
My cousin and I planned our whole trip to Mexico because we wanted to go on this excursion, and it did not disappoint! Our guide, Iban Garcia was so very knowledgeable. He had an archaeological background and was very knowledgeable in the Mayan culture. I highly recommend this tour and try to ask for Iban, you will not be disappointed!
