Itinerary
Day 1: Athens - Monastery of St. Loukas - Village of Arachova - Delphi
Stop At: Plateia Syntagmatos, Leoforos Vassilissis Amalias, Athens 105 63 Greece
Our driver will pick you up from your Hotel and in about a couple of hours we will make our first stop at the wonderful Byzantine Monastery of St. Loukas. Continuing we will depart to reach the village of Arachova, the most bustling winter destination in Greece, a mountainous village at 1000 meters altitude. Discover the traditional character of the village by taking a coffee break. Don’t forget to try the famous, traditional cheese, Arachova’s formaela, in various forms. Then, we will leave in order to visit our next destination, the archaeological site of Delphi. The Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi lies within the angle formed by the twin rocks of the Phaedriades and was regarded as the center of the world. We will visit Castalia Spring, the monument of the Argive Kings, the treasury of the Athenians, the Athenian Stoa, the Polygonal Wall, the monument of Platea and the Temple of Apollo famous for its oracle and Delphi museum. After this we will depart from Arachova and driving through Central Greece we arrive in Kalambaka, a small traditional town that is built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks of God, at the shadow of the great Meteora Monasteries. Day 2: Monasteries of Meteora - Thermopiles & Statue of Leonidas - Athens
Stop At: Meteora, Kastraki, Kalambaka 422 00 Greece
Visit Meteora enjoying a unique and imposive scenery of ageless monasteries, containing priceless historical and religious treasures, standing between Earth and Sky atop huge rocks. We are going to visit the first great monastery of Varlaam or Great Meteoro founded on the 16th century and located on the top of a rock at 380m height! Our second visit will be at the Monastery of St. Stephan (or similar) of the 15th century, also built on the top of the top of another huge ro,ck where you will admire a small treasure of Byzantine and Christian items at the museum inside the monastery! Return to Athens passing by the small towns of Domokos, Kamena Vourla, at the seaside and Thermopyles where the statue of Leonidas is on display as a memorial of the battle of the 300 Spartans against thousands of Persian soldiers of the Persian Empire. Our driver will drop you off at your hotel late in the afternoon.
