We were with Leon. He was very friendly and informative. He gave us great tips to view each spot and put together a really full and exciting tour. Would be great if tours started leaving from Furnas, as that is where we were staying.
Lagoa do Fago is one of the most spectacular places on earth. What an amazing view from the top. Our tour guide Leo was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Of course the liquor tasting at the end of the tour was refreshing. Great!!!
Lagoa de Fogo was ok, to be honest. Here's the scoop: i suspect St Miguel island wants to direct tourists to these spots so that the real charm towns where the locals live remain a hidden gem. You get to the Lagoa and Cetes Cidades and I was like, man - it's just a lake! So what I did was rent a car and drove around the island on my own. The town of Mosteiros, around the rocks area was the best - with its giant rocks in the ocean, charming streets and local cafes. Mosteiros all the way, peeps. Furnas too.
It was amazing!!! The beauty if this island is like no other...I highly recommend our tour guide Leoncio Andrade whose love of his home makes the tour that much more special.
