Guimarães and Braga Day Trip from Porto Including Porto Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour
1 day
Full Day
About this activity
Meet your guide in central Porto, and settle into your seat aboard an air-conditioned bus for the approximate 1-hour drive to Guimarães, famed for its World Heritage–listed Old Town comprised of cobblestoned squares and narrow streets lined with medieval buildings and candy-colored houses.
When you arrive, stretch your legs on a walking tour. Follow your guide through the warren of streets in Guimarães Old Town, and take in sights such as Guimarães Castle (Castelo de Guimarães), which dates back to the 10th century and is known for being the birthplace of Portugal’s first king. Other sights include a palace, Paço Duques de Bragança, and a church, Igreja de Nossa Senhora Consolação e Santos Passos.
Afterward, you have a little more than an hour of free time to explore independently before continuing to Braga, known worldwide for its elaborate Semana Santa (Holy Week) celebrations. The chorus of chiming bells and bevy of baroque churches serve as a reminder of Braga’s status as the oldest Christian city in Portugal while the chic boutiques, bustling cafes and bars packed with university students reveal a new side to the city.
Take a guided tour of Braga’s timeworn streets and Arcada, the main square, and admire sights like Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary and Sé Cathedral (the oldest in Portugal). Then enjoy more free time to explore at your leisure or have lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant. When the time comes, return to your coach and travel back to Porto, where your day trip concludes back at the original starting point.
Port hop-on hop-off tour:
This day trip also includes access to two different hop-on hop-off tour routes in Porto. Your ticket is valid for 48 hours from time of first use and can be taken at any point during your stay.

2 cities in one day is too much. It should be 1 city only to see more and they should stop giving tourists a lot of free time because that's a waste of time.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TOUR
This was a fantastic tour. George was very knowledgable and we had a great day. He even recommended some places in Porto for me to check out later. The two places were wonderful :)
Guide's English was very poor and the information provided was not so interesting. Anyway, the bus was excellent and the places we've seen compensated this. It's better to make this bus tour than taking the train.
Really enjoyable trip. Very knowledgeable guide Susana was very approachable and shared lots of passion for this particular region of Portugal. Trip was very good, however I think that we would have enjoyed Braga Sanctuary (Church) more had we had a little longer free time to explore independently.
This was s lovely tour with an excellent guide. I enjoyed the two places we visited very much. The guide also recommended a very nice place for lunch. The tour was quite flexible so he worked with the rainy weather to give me the best day out.
