This blessed land appears, in the early days, simply as "Furada", an immense beach, ideal for varga fishing.

During the last century began to be inhabited by people exclusively dedicated to the fishing activity, coming from Espinho, Ovar, Furadouro and Murtosa.

Afurada, thus became known, quickly became the main fishing center of Vila Nova de Gaia, with the massive capture of sardines, shad and lamprey.

It was growing in size (with the creation of residences, school, medical post, ...) and in importance, having been elevated to Freguesia in 1952 and patronized by S. Pedro,

thus creating the Parish and Parish of S. Pedro da Afurada.

In the Afurada begins a cycle path that will take you to Espinho, almost always next to the sea shore.

On the way, they pass through the Douro Estuary Natural Reserve and the Senhor da Pedra Chapel, which is one of the most mysterious chapels.
