Why You Shouldn’t Miss This

The famous Prague Castle is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Prague, drawing nearly 1.8 million visitors annually. The amalgamation of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture lends a surreal feeling to someone who has walked into the complex for the first time. Combining materials such as stone, glass, and wood with such finesse and panache to create gorgeous designs are rarely seen at a single location.

The St. Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace, and the St. George’s Basilica are the main attractions of the Prague Castle complex. An astonishing 103 meters tall, the cathedral stands like an arrow in the sky. It is one of the most prominent examples of Gothic architecture in the world. The St. George’s Basilica currently houses the Bohemian Art Collection from the 19th century. It is also used as a concert hall.

Built in the 9th century, the castle is a glimpse into the life of the ancient Kings of Bohemia and the Holy Roman Emperors. It is one of the few palaces that has witnessed the rise and fall of several kingdoms and empires. From the noble Bohemian household to Nazi Germany, the leaders of some of the largest empires in the world have inhabited the palace.

Your Experience

Enjoy a complimentary laid-back ride to the Prague Castle gates. Getting to the castle on time is no longer something you have to spare any thought to. Save additional energy and time by bypassing the queues that are a daily occurrence at the admission ticket counter. With the professional guide providing commentary, it allows one to truly appreciate the artistry, culture, history, and heritage held by the ancient structures. The Old Royal Palace is the centerpiece of the Prague Castle complex.

Built in the early 10th century, the Old Royal Palace is one of the oldest buildings in the Prague Castle complex. Its Vladislav Hall is one of the most spectacular sights in the Prague Castle. With the intricate vaulted ceilings inspired by late-Gothic elements, interspersed by the Renaissance style rectangular windows, architect Benedikt Ried created a true architectural masterpiece. The gigantic hall was used for the coronation of kings, banquets, receptions and other major celebrations. Currently, formal gatherings for prominent events are held in this historic hall. On the southern wall of the room is a terrace, where a breathtaking scene awaits. The city of Prague, in all its glory, can be witnessed from this vantage point.

The All Saints’ Chapel is next on the itinerary. With vaulted ceilings and paintings of St. Procopius on the walls, the church is only open to the public during religious services and events or during concerts. Finally, you will reach the Golden Lane, a street inside the Prague Castle complex. The houses were inhabited by defenders of the castle. Consisting of brightly colored houses, the lane provides a glimpse of the life of people who worked at the Castle. Currently, most of the houses serve as souvenir shops, where you can buy some accessories in remembrance of your visit to Prague Castle.

Your tour will conclude under steps of Prague Castle or, alternatively, should you have opted for complimentary transfers, you can be dropped off near the city center.
