About this activity
Come experience the rich cultural and culinary heritage of the Garifuna a group of people descended from shipwrecked African slaves and native Indians. Livingston is the only Garifuna settlement in Guatemala, which makes this small fishing village a very unique place. The Garifuna are very proud of their distinct traditions and lends Livingston a more Caribbean feel than Latin American. Visitors will experience how the Garifuna live, learn the art of making traditional Casava bread, and how to cook Tapado (think bouillabaisse of the tropics), a seafood soup with plantain and a coconut milk broth seasoned with cilantro and a hint of hot pepper.
