About this activity
Get ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience! You will travel from Punta Cana to Samaná, a place for some of the best whale watching because the Dominican Republic has one of the largest and best Humpback whale breeding sanctuaries in the world. Every year, over 4,000 Humpback whales visit the Bay of Samaná with the purpose of breeding. Spanning more than 4,000 miles (8,000 km) of open ocean, they find their way every year to the same polar waters to feed, and the same subtropical waters to breed which provides a great whale watching opportunity.
You will be greeted by the majestic presence of the Humpback Whales in the open waters of Samaná Bay. Your English speaking host and tour guide with an encyclopedic knowledge of the whales, will inform you of all of their habits. Remember to bring your camera-you could have unedited whale watching photo opportunities!
After the whale watching you will head to Cayo Levantado Island, where you will be delighted by a memorable lunch with panoramic views of the Bay of Samaná. Prepare yourself to experience the white sandy beaches and the warm turquoise water of this unique and relaxing place. There, you can simply relax and enjoy a good cocktail on the beach of this lost paradise.
This is without a doubt an amazing whale watching tour in the Dominican Republic!
Please Note: Duration of whale watching is 45 minutes. In the case that you are unable to watch the whales within this time frame, a second trip by boat will be made to ensure whale watching.

It was a little disappointing, First they do not say it is an almost 3 hr trip to the boat. The boat was not what we were expecting either, Talk about a full boat! Whew! then come to find out that there was a horseback riding part of this, which was never explained in the description of the excursion. We both have had surgeries, where horseback riding is a no-no, so we had to stay on the island for 5 hours while the others went horseback riding. The island was beautiful and there was a bar and some food, so that was good. It did pour rain for 2 hours or more, but that is Mother nature. But we had to ride back to the mainland in the pouring rain, which was very scary as the boat was very very packed. The crew had rain coats, but still sent my better half to sit in the front with no cover and no offer of one of their raincoats, Oh yeah! the whale watching was minimal, whales were there, but too many people on boat and standing up to see, so we couldn't see very much. Will not go with this company anymore. Need more details in their descriptions of excursions. Did meet a fantastic lady from England though,
We were a little worried about rain on the day we went, but that turned out to be nothing compared to the the waves breaking over the sides of the boat. The boat was small and seemed to take on more water than the larger boats. We saw a Humpback Whale calf that entertained us for about 20 minutes, by popping up out of the water and laying on its side to view the boats. The mother swam smoothly beside it, quite close to the waters surface. The guided horse tour to the waterfall was also great fun and so beautiful. The local guides were very skilled and helpful at naming the vegetation. We sampled specialties of the Dominican Republic and had a very tasty buffet lunch.
