High Country Discovery Tour from Queenstown
4h30
About this activity
After hotel pickup in Queenstown, hop aboard a 4-passenger 4WD vehicle for a half–day adventure over Mount Earnslaw Station, right into the heart of New Zealand’s high country. Your guide has exclusive access to Mount Earnslaw Station, a 130-year-old working farm set in the spectacular alpine environment of the Paradise Valley at the head of Lake Wakatipu.
You will gain real insight into country life in this remote region, where LOTR fiming locations can be viewed along with plenty of walking options to secluded vantage points for the ultimate photograph.
No visit to the area is complete without a visit to Glenorchy village. First surveyed in 1864, it has fluctuated in numbers over the years with activities including gold mining, sawmilling, scheelite mining, farming, and more recently filmmaking with what may be the smallest library in the world.
Throughout the tour you will hear commentary and historical, cultural, and geographic anecdotes from your guide. This itinerary is flexible and able to cater to your interests. Optional activities include vising an operational woolshed where in season 1,500 sheep are shorn in a day; touring Diamond Lake flanked, by Mt. Alfred and Mt. Earnslaw; and riding the 4WD across farmland to Lake Reid where black swans and paradise ducks live all year-round.
Finish with the return drive to Queenstown and drop-off at your hotel.
