About this activity
Depart from Reykjavik Terminal on a Mercedes-Benz coach equipped with a Wi-Fi connected computer tablet at each seat, which you can use to access the on-board, GPS-enabled audio guide. Your tour is also led by a guide, who will happily answer any questions you might have about Iceland's unique geography.
Your first stop is the Langjökull glacier, the second-largest glacier in the country. As soon as you find yourself standing on top of the ice cap, get ready to go beneath the surface, traveling aboard a specially modified glacier vehicle to reach the man-made ice cave, aka ice tunnel; during this experience, learn from your guide how global climate change has impacted the surrounding area.
Deep in the glacier, you have the chance to admire the stunning blue ice, and hear about the glacier's constant motion. Until very recently, what lies below Langjökull was a mystery, but sometimes bold ideas come to life, and the creation of this man-made ice cave was only possible with help from top engineers and renowned geophysicists. Inside the glacier, where the temperature is usually around 32˚ Fahrenheit (0˚ C), you can see from the layers of ice how the glacier was formed.
After this, return to the warmth of the vehicle, and head to Húsafell for lunch (own expense). Then choose between seeing the famous Hraunfossar, a waterfall that flows over lava rock or relax in the small village of Húsafell. Your tour ends with return to Reykjavik terminal.

This is a must do tour! Absolutely incredible. Traveling onto the glacier and walking into the glacier underground tunnels and caves was a major highlight for me. The Langjökull glacier is amazing.
This was one of the best parts of our trip. How often do you get to walk on a glacier and then go inside. All of the guides were fantastic and extremely knowledgable. They took safety very serious. Will go again when we go back. A must see on any trip to Iceland!
Would like to say that it was a great adventure and a wonderful trip. Our guide in the cave sang a song for us to hear the acoustic in the ice chapel. We loved the ravens Huginn and Muninn. Walking on and in a glacier is an amazing experience!
Enjoyable trip with entertaining tour guide minibus a little cramped. The team at the ice caves were brilliant.
Simply magical, especially when our guide sang, in the chapel!
Ok so tunnel experience itself- very cool! Tour guides- fantastic! However we were the first trip up for the day and therefore the ones to forge the way through the snow. The truck ended up not working so well and what should have taken 4 hours took 9.5 hrs. So, I would say do not pick to be the first tour group. lol
If you are going to Iceland, I wouldn't miss the Ice Cave. That being said, know that it is a man-made cave because real ice caves are too dangerous to enter. Also it is the largest form of pollution in Iceland. It is still incredibly beautiful and it is going to be there whether you take the tour or not, so you might as well go in. It is quite the experience. One piece of advice. Do not wear transition glasses on the ride over! My glasses turned very dark in the truck and when I walked into the cave, due to the cold, they would not lighten and I couldn't see. I thought I would have to miss the tour because I am blind without them. Luckily, I had electric gloves and put them in and finally they cleared up enough for the tour!!!
