SuperSaver: Small Group Silfra Snorkeling and Lava Caving Adventure from Reykjavik
1 day
Small Group
About this activity
Following pickup at your Reykjavik pick up point, climb aboard a comfortable, climate-controlled minibus for a 60-minute journey to the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park. Thingvellir has a rich history and is probably as close as you can get to the heart of Iceland.
After a safety briefing and introduction to the area, get fitted for spelunking and snorkel gear, and then follow your guide to the lava fields of a typical Icelandic lava cave for a lava caving exploration. Climb through a lava tube and take a 1.5-hour tour of the cave, located in one of the most active volcanic areas in the world. See shield volcanoes, products of lava flows that have left spectacular layers of rock and lava deposits over the years.
Before continuing to Silfra fissure, take a break for lunch (own expense). At the Silfra fissure, slip on your snorkeling gear and explore the underground pool of heavenly blue colors and incredible visibility. Drift between the tectonic plates that separate North America and Eurasia, and check out the most scenic areas of the pool accompanied by your guide. After a day of exploring Þingvellir National Park, you'll conclude with drop-off back to Reykjavik.
Please note that during the summer time, Gjabakkahellir lava cave will be visited and during the winter months Leidarendi lava cave will be visited. Leidarendi cave is located in the Blue Mountains area.

Kevin was our guide and he was amazing!!! Assured us if our safety, gave through instructions, made you feel safe and came to get me when the windy water became rough. This excursion was one not to miss even though the suit was super restrictive and tight around the neck but I guess it’s supposed to be that way, they doubled checked mine. Great adventure
We enjoyed Jonas and Apollo's tour of the lava cave where we learned quite a lot about lava, and did some good exercise crawling through the caves. The snorkeling trip was really well organized and an excellent experience to have!
We had a great day!! Our guides, Mikka, Becca and Lena were all terrific. Taz, the woman who prepared and accompanied us snorkeling could not have been any nicer and prepared us well for the adventure we were about to undertake. Our group of six adults (my wife and I and our daughter and son and their spouses) all had a terrific time and felt it was a once in a lifetime experience!!!
Loved the lava caving! Birka not sure about spelling! was a wonderful guide. Snorkeling was a lot of work to get suited up and our snorkel was very short. Our group was split and half our group went out ahead yet we finished at same time and no pictures were taken but were with the other half of our group so seemed our group was rushed.
This tour was amazing!
A must do
