About this activity
Enjoy a comprehensive, 9.5-10 hour day tour around the south coast of Iceland.
The day starts with complimentary pick up from hotels and guesthouses within the greater Reykjavik area. Pick-up starts at 8am and at 8:30am the tour leaves from Harpa, music and conference hall in downtown Reykjavik where the base is located. The size of the coach you will be travelling on depends on how many people are booked for the tour. It could be a 16 seater minibus or a 50 seater coach.
We will drive straight out of town heading for the south coast, and after driving for approximately 1.5 hours through Iceland's scenery we will take a short break at Hvolsvöllur, where passengers can use the bathrooms or buy coffee (own expense).
The next stop on the tour is the majestic waterfall Skógafoss, and from there we will drive up to Reynisfjara beach where it's possible to see the black sands and basaltic columns. Usually we stop for lunch at Reynisfjara (own expense) but in some cases we may go to the small village of Vík and stop there instead. From Reynisfjara we will head to cape Dyrhólaey, the southernmost point of Iceland, where you can see its magnificent ocean cliffs.
The tour then takes passengers to Sólheimajökull glacier where we take approximately a 15 minute walk up to the glaciers edge, on some days it's possible to walk close enough to touch the glacier.
From Sólheimajökull it is around a 30 minute drive to the waterfall Seljalandsfoss. When the weather is mild it is possible to walk behind it. Seljalandsfoss is the last stop of the day and from there it's approximately a 2-hour drive back to Reykjavík where passengers will be dropped off back at their hotel/guesthouses.
Please note that drop off might be close to your hotel rather than at the hotel door - this depends on accessibility.
This tour involves some short, relatively easy walks on the sites visited. It's recommended that you dress warmly because the weather in Iceland can change very quickly.

Absolutely breathtaking and our driver was brilliant! Loved every minute of this wonderful trip. Definitely recommend
We were so looking forward to a full day of amazing scenery, but had a full day of fierce rain and wind. In spite of the weather, we were amazed by the waterfalls and the ocean. Beautiful!
Just a teensy bit disappointed. Booked trip on mini bus, but was transferred to larger bus. Still, only about 25 people so not too bad. Scenery was gorgeous!! Long day but WELL worth it! Another MUST DO excursion for any stay in Iceland. Highly recommended!
We went on a Golden circle tour first and then decided to take the southern coast tour and we are so glad we did! The tour and sites were amazing - a must see if you visit Iceland. The tour was long but we had a decent amount of time in each spot. Our tour guide Boris was awesome - he had great stories to share and truly cared about the group and our experience on the tour. He made it memorable and we would recommend to anyone visiting Iceland!
Overall a good tour and would recommend it since you get a good mix of places you visit and get to touch a glacier after a bit of a hike. The tour guide was competent although did not talk about the area and surrounding landscape as much as other guides we have had. Would not recommend for people who would have difficulty on uneven surfaces.
This was a small group on a mini bus. They had USB's to charge your phone and camera as well as wifi. This came in handy. Be sure you bring a normal size charging cord as I didn't. Rain pants were needed for the falls. Waterproof gloves also are recommended as Iceland is cold no matter the time of year.
I am so, so impressed with Sterna Travel and the wonderful guide of my tour, Annie. She was so informative and funny and laid-back. She seemed to really enjoy answering all of our questions about Iceland's history and fauna. The weather also happened to be fabulous on this day, making the whole trip even better. We saw some awesome sights and even got a couple of extra stops in because it was such a small group of people. Thank you so much, Annie, for making this such a fun experience! Can't recommend this company and specific tour enough.
A nice day trip to see the south coast. Got back on time.
