About this activity

Your personal guide will pick you up in the morning from Reykjavík, in the area you prefer. Þingvellir National Park is the first stop; in this area, the Vikings had their Alþingi (general assembly). Your guide will accompany you for a trek through the park and describe the park’s rich background as well as its geological features.

You will then proceed to the Haukadalur valley; here, you will come across Geysir geothermal location; the Great Geyser, which was a gushing spring, is found here. Its' dynamic counterpart Strokkur is also present, gushing every 8 to 10 minutes.

It is a wonderful experience to go to Geyser Center for lunch, prior to proceeding to Gullfoss waterfall. This waterfall consists of two tiers; it has regularly been nominated as among the 10 most attractive waterfalls in the world.

You will be driven back to Reykjavik by your personal guide in the afternoon. Between 1 and 4 individuals can be booked for this tour. As the tour is conducted with an itinerary that isn't subject to a strict time-table, customers are allowed the opportunity to explore and experience the attractions at their leisure.

The day trip in our case was handled by the company Mercury Grail and it's owner Andres Ivanovic. He arrived at our hotel early and was upbeat and pleasant. Even though the listing says 4x4 Jeep it was an awd Subaru. That was perfectly fine and Andres was a competent driver. One thing that you will discover when visiting Iceland during the winter months is that the weather is extremely changeable and road conditions will vary. Maybe it was because we were of similar age to Andres that we made a connection or it could have been that we were genuinely interested in the country and what we were seeing. He was able to answer our questions and also added his own commentary. The Icelandic horses were also of interest to us and the other party in the car and he made sure to stop at a small roadside group to take photos and get some time to pet them. There was never any question that our enjoyment was paramount to him. He also would accommodate and bathroom or food stops that the group needed. He also contacted us preceding the trip to suggest the best time to depart for the day. Andres is typical of the type of person you meet in Iceland and I highly recommend him as a guide.
