About this activity
Here you will explore the iconic Golden Circle and relax in between stops at Fontana Spa. On our first stop we walk in the footsteps of ancient vikings by visiting the national park Þingvellir. The park was an open air parliament from 930-1793, set in an extremely dramatic location – in a rift valley, in between high cliffs. It’s also the setting of Iceland’s biggest lake, Þingvallavatn.
The next stop from there is Laugavatn, a town, a lake, and the home of Fontana Geothermal Spa where you can relax for an hour and a half in the geothermal pools. In cold weather, or warm weather you can be sure that Fontana is the perfect spot for relaxing in between sightseeing and to enjoy the fresh Icelandic air. The view of the lake is spectacular – and if you are brave enough you can even take a dip in the cold lake, in between soaking in the natural saunas and jumping into the warm pools of varying temperatures. In the saunas, hearing the boiling water below the floors is surreal – you can feel the geothermal power underneath the earth. The pools themselves are relaxing and peaceful.
From there we will see the world famous Geysir – where the ground trembles and steaming hot water spouts spectacularly skywards from the famous Strokkur Geyser every few minutes. Our last stop is the dramatic Gullfoss Waterfall, which is an breathtaking sight to behold. Here a powerful glacial river cascades down 32 meters on two levels and into a narrow canyon with a thunderous roar.
All in all – it’s the perfect combination of activities. Amazing must-do sightseeing, and a relaxation in a geothermal spa set in a gorgeous location!
