I really enjoyed this tour. Our guide was great. She was friendly and informative, and was really good at giving us plenty of pauses and breaks, since some of us were less fit than others. I wish I could have seen the scenery in the sunlight, but it was still amazing on a cloudy day. The pictures I saw before going looked like paintings, and the place looks like that in real life, too! My whole group had to buy face nets for the midges, though, so you may want to come with one. They weren't so bad the farther we got from the base camp. I highly recommend this hike.
Experience was great. Guide was helpful and knowledgeable. Hike was spectacular for scenery. Bus ride very bumpy, but that was to be expected.
Okay, so the actual hike was absolutely breathtaking and incredible!! Our tour guide, Inga, was FANTASTIC!! She showed us so many amazing formations and pointed out scenery, didn't mind us stopping for pictures, and took it slow when some of us including me! were tired out on the uphill areas. She was so friendly...basically...LOVE her!!! The other parts of the tour were a bit...not fun. For instance, I didn't know ahead of time how LONG the bus ride was. It was probably about 4 hours there, and maybe longer on the way back, due to stops along the way to pick up/drop off other people. About an hour of the trip is through a lava field, so it's extremely bumpy. The other part is that there was not food stops. We had brought a lot of snacks with us, because we knew it would be a long day, but on the viator tour site it said that lunch would be provided for us for this tour. In fact, here is the EXACT sentence from the tour website page...On arrival, enjoy a provided picnic and, then lace up your hiking boots to start your hike with your professional guide. Notice, it says PROVIDED PICNIC. There was NO provided picnic. On the way, we stopped at a gas station, and the guides told us that if we didn't bring food, to buy something now because you won't have any given to you once you get there. So, we improvised and bought some gas station sandwiches. This ended up okay to tide us over during the hike, but I devoured all of my snacks when we got back to the camp area. On the drive back, we made NO stops for dinner, and we did not arrive back to the city until past 10:00. By that point we were very tired, and VERY hungry. I hope Viator will take that part off of the website so people know they need to bring A LOT of food!! I'm telling you, after a 4 hour hike, you will be VERY hungry!! If the bus had made a stop at a dinner spot, we would have been much happier! If you go on this tour, bring snacks, and be prepared to get back much later than it says.
The views are stunning.
Landmannalauger is amazing! Beautiful Hike. My only complaint is the tour operator,is a company of Artic Adventures. The bus we arrived on did not stay at the site and another bus was to pick us up. We were done with the hike around 3:00pm, however the return bus was not scheduled till 6:00PM. There is no where to go once done with the hike. You are in the middle of nowhere. It was pouring rain and there is no shelter to speak of - this is a camp ground. We were huddled in the bathrooms to get out of the rain. Return bus was not just our tour group, but mostly backpackers and we made several stops on the 4 hour return trip to drop them off. Tour indicates 12 hours, but it was really 15 because of this. We did not get back to Reykjavik till 10pm. Our tour guides were great - and I don't blame them for this chaos as they didn't appear to know we wouldn't have a return bus till 6pm. They did everything they could to make us comfortable, but had no options to get us back to Reykjavik.
The hike and view was amazing
