About this activity
First off, you will start your hunt for the Northern Lights with a bit of planning via the Aurora forecast and start your exploration by heading in that direction. You might drive for up to one hour to a good spot and perhaps wait for the lights. At this point, take out the hot chocolate and Icelandic pastries. Also have Icelandic wool blankets on board the minibus to keep you warm while standing outside.
There may be the decision of changing spots, by interacting with other locals as there are many different people outside looking for lights every night. This is of course done to increase the possibilities of finding some Northern Lights. If not, you get to try again upon your availability or the next good forecast.
By traveling in a minibus you get the qualities of a smaller group of no more than 16 people, as crowds are being avoided for the best spot available.

Went out on the tour Friday 12/7 and we were only able to see a sliver of green through the clouds with a digital camera. The guide went to 4 different spots trying to find a break in the clouds, but wasn't able to find one. He gets an A for effort. Since we didn't have luck Friday we went out again on Saturday night and another group told our guide they were seeing lights so she gathered us all back in the van and drove the 45 minutes to where the others were having luck. But, unfortunately by the time we got there the clouds had come in. So, I decided to give it one more try on my last night and it proved the old saying 'Third times a charm". Maurizio drove out towards the airport and after checking with another tour that was already set up there he was told they hadn't seen anything yet, but it looked like Auroras were forming. He parked, I bundled up, stepped out with my camera and tripod, and within a minute of setting up the show started!! I was lucky to have a digital camera and tripod because it picked up the colors that the naked eye doesn't see. With my own eyes all I was able to see were very pale (almost white)forms moving around the sky. But, the camera picked up florescent greens along with some other colors. I had my camera shutter set on 15 and 30 second exposure and wish I had cut that down some because the stars show in all my photos and I think if I had gone down to 5 seconds and raised my ISO I may have less stars and more of the lights images. But, I'm not complaining! It was a great experience and I'm glad I kept trying. I'd also like to note that other companies had cancelled their northern lights tours for Sun 12/9, but EastWest didn't and we were awarded with a great show. I recommend this tour for the perseverance of the guides and the size of the group (under 15) which makes it easier to get people in and out of the van if its necessary to move from one location to the next.
Didnt get to see much of the Northern Lights bu5 the trip was still good. Very nice driver.
We didnt see lights the first night, but the company was happy to take us out the following night. The guides were very experienced and did an excellent job of providing information and locating areas where we could have the best view. The hot chocolate and sweet treats were an extra added bonus.
