About this activity
From mythology and old scripts we know that scientists and people have wonderedabout green lines over the skies for thousands of years. In northern countries, the effect is known as the Aurora Borealis, named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas. The Eskimos believe that they are the souls of animals. Some even believe that the auroras dance closer to the those who are watching them, that they will envelop you, and take you to the heavens. Many believe that its a sign that the spirits of their loved ones are still close and are watching over them always.
From Reykjavik we will be hunting the Northern Lights in the west of Iceland, passing Borgarnes town. But it is the weather that will guide our way. Heading to the east of Reykjavik we can often see the Northern Lights in the Arborg area or even deeper in land near Geyser and the valley of Haukdal and Thingvellir National Park. In some cases the weather will direct us elsewhere, where we can find the northern lights in Reykjanes area up to 60km south from Reykjavik.

Unbelievable...freezing cold but so worth it...beautiful experience...so glad I saw them...great guide... great pictures he shared... HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Tour was fantastic, he emailed to arrange for day after due to weather. He knew his stuff. Would definitely recommend the private tour. Well worth the money. Was out for over 4 hours. Thank you for a memorable time :)
Well, we tried, the solar rating was only 2, our guide tried. Very hard, we did see some faint northern lights, it was the best we could hope for the night!
We did a Northern Lights private tour with Andres and I do not have the words to express how great the trip was! We had our trip booked for a specific day on which we spoke to him about 4pm and he said that our chances were unlikely given the weather conditions and that he would advise rescheduling until the day after. We had a short trip with limited time in Iceland but took his word for it given hes the expert. He collected us promptly from our hotel at 9pm and we drove out of the city for about an hour to get away from the lights. We were fortunate enough to see the lights without too much chasing around, Andres was very knowledgeable, and a great character which made the trip that bit more interesting. One of the perks of doing a private tour is that Andres knew some of the quieter areas where you dont get hordes of people, and therefore it felt much more special as there were few people at the area we were in. He would have been happy to sit there all night if wed wanted, and there was the added bonus that he had his camera and could take some great shots of the Northern Lights which he promptly sent over within hours of dropping us back to our hotel. I could not recommend the trip enough, it far exceeded our expectation and if youre considering booking a trip I would not hesitate in doing so.
Such a fabulous time! Bent over backwards to help me see the northern lights before heading home. Like an old friend showing me the local sites! Thanks again!
