Reykjavik Shore Excursion: Whale-Watching Cruise

About this activity
Choose from a 2.5- or 3.5-hour shore excursion at a time to suit you – morning or afternoon – and then hop aboard your whale-watching boat at Reykjavik Port. As the harbour slips from view, watch out for the incredible marine life for which Iceland is famed as you head toward the waters of Faxaflói Bay. Your guide will hand you a pair of warm (and waterproof!) coveralls to wear, should you need them, enabling you to sightsee without feeling the cold.
Listen to your guide explain the different species of whales that are found in Iceland, and hear captivating tales about encounters with these magnificent sea creatures, getting tips for the signs of life that you need to look out for. The waters around Faxaflói Bay are home to porpoises and white-beaked dolphins as well as whales, and the creatures often surface close to the boat; have your camera ready!
Since most of your whale-watching experience takes place out on deck, temperatures can be chilly. So warm yourself up by heading inside the boat’s luxurious viewing area where hot drinks and light refreshments can be found (own expense).
Your cruise has a 90 percent success rate for seeing whales, but in the unlikely event that you don’t see any your guide will give you a complimentary ticket for another boat ride.
Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return to Reykjavik Port for this activity. In the rare event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

Wot whales? We saw nuffin.
I doubt whether many of these trips actually discover whales and mine did not. But it did not matter because for 3 1/2 hours I was on the same body of water that Vikings once sailed. The ship was just fine. If you needed a snack or hot coffee, you had a snack bar. If you wanted to jump into thermal overalls, there was plenty to go around. If you wanted to stay warm inside, there was plenty of viewing room inside. We ran into several groups of dolphins, but to me, to be there in Iceland, sailing far out and away from Reykjavik, that was all I needed to thoroughly enjoy this tour. I highly recommend.
Nice boat, helpful crew, lovely guide, but limited viewings-none of minke whale apparently spotted, dolphins only
Didn't see the whales however nice trip and gorgeous tour guide with amazing sense of humour
Time indication for pick up as inaccurate. We were told pick up noon, meant was however between noon and 12.45. We had to call once again to clarify. Crew did excellent in spite of the rough sea. Actually date was bad for whale watching as most big whales were already gone. We did only see a little bit of a mink whale.
