About this activity
If you choose a tour with transportation, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavík and drive you to Thingvellir National Park where Silfra is located, about an hour's drive from Reykjavík. The tour is approximately 5 hours from the time of pick up in Reykjavík to the time of drop off. You can also choose to drive yourself to Silfra. Upon arrival at Silfra, your guide will give you your dry suit and snorkeling equipment, and explain how to use this equipment. The guide will also give you advice on how to stay warm and comfortable during your 30 to 40 minute snorkeling tour of the Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral, and Silfra Lagoon sites. All participants need to have read and signed the Snorkeling Silfra Medical Statement(view here: https://www.dive.is/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Silfra-snorkeling-medical_Final.pdf ) and sign our liability release form at the start of the tour (view here: https://www.dive.is/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/AA_LIABILITY_SNORKELING_2016.pdf )
After the tour we warm up with hot chocolate and cookies.

- All participant heights, weights and age must be provided to local operator. If you did not provide at time of booking, please contact supplier immediately after booking to provide this information
- Participants must be at least 14 years of age
- We recommend wearing long thermal underwear and thick wool socks as a base layer under the dry suit
- Minimum height is 4ft 11in (150cm). Minimum weight is 100lbs (45kg).
- Maximum height and weight is 6ft7in (200cm) and 264lbs (120kg).
- Participants must be comfortable in water and able to swim, physically fit and healthy
- Please note that that dry suits can sometimes feel quite tight and constricting
- All participants must be able to communicate in English.
- Not suitable for pregnant women
- Dry suits are worn over your own clothing
- Recommended to bring a change of clothes and warm undergarments

Take advantage of this amazing chance to view the Earth's crust. Gear keeps you plenty warm,and you can drink the water! AJ was great. Lots of care given to ensure people stay dry.
It was everything it promised to be and now, when I look back I am glad and pretty proud that we did it. But, on that day, we were super cold and we had to wait in line for an hour or more in that cold to do the 20 minute snorkeling. It would have been great if they had a better system for waiting in the winter, which did not involve getting frozen. But, the experience itself and the pictures and our guide were all great and am happy to check that off my list!
This tour was wonderful. Our guide Jukka was knowledge, conscientious and safety conscious. The underwater scenery was stunning! Though the water temperature was about 35 F I was not cold at all. The snorklers are dressed in a drysuit with a hood and lobster gloves. The gear worked as advertised and I was warm throughout the approximately 30 minute snorkel.
Definitely a 'bucket list' item. They provide EVERYTHING for a very enjoyable and unique experience. The equipment keeps your warm - which is really nice. Our guide, Michael, was outstanding and made the trip enjoyable for everyone. The hot chocolate and cookies at the end was a really nice touch !
