About this activity
Join us as we head west on a full day magical mystical tour to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and surroundings.
Countless lunar landscapes and volcanic vistas lie in store for us as we drive west out of Reykjavik and head towards the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier.
The glacier sits atop the active stratovolcano of the same name that took centre stage in the Jules Verne sci-fi novel, ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’. You might even have spotted the ice cap glittering from across the bay in Reykjavik. The volcano is thought to house mystical powers and is considered by many to be one of the seven main energy centres of the earth, so don’t be surprised if you experience an unexplained spiritual energy flow whilst in it’s presence.
This is an area is of exceptional geological beauty – craters, lava fields (some more recent than others) idyllic, hidden coves and bizarre rock formations all lie in wait to be explored and discovered. Local legends and folk stories abound and are an essential element of this multifaceted tour. The day would not be complete without an Icelandic home-cooked early evening meal along with some local interaction - so, naturally, this is also included.
A fabulous tour that really hits the spot when it comes to observing volcanic phenomena, discovering Iceland’s dramatic coast line and experiencing a more spiritual and mystical side of Iceland.

This is a long day with lots of time in the Van, but Tony had lots of good information and we saw several beautiful sites. This is not the most traveled part of Icelnad, but I am glad we added it to our trip
If you visit Iceland, this is a must do excursion!! It's a long day, but you see stunning scenery all along the way. Drive is all the way around the peninsula from Reykjavik with return. Great/knowledgeable driver/guide in a minibus. Dinner at a horse farm (in the family's home) with marvelous home cooking! Got to visit with their Icelandic horses. I can't say enough good things about this excursion! Just do it. It is well worth it.
Our guide was excellent. He taught me the proper way to walk down a slippery incline. The crater was amazing. The dinner at the farm was very good as were the horses we visited with after dinner.
This was our first time in Iceland and heard a lot of good things about Snaefellsness. The tour was outstanding!!! We had a small group of 4 people total and was perfect. Our tour guide, Jonas, was top notch! He took his time to tell us the history of the area and did not rush any activity we were doing. His knowledge and humorous demeanor made this tour, hands down, the best tour of our vacation. The Snaefellsnes Peninsula was amazing to experience! Beautiful views, we were able to pet horses, see seals, climb up cliffs, eat Icelandic hot dogs, see Game of Thrones locations, and have dinner at a horse ranch DELICIOUS! I would 100 recommend this tour to everyone visiting and definitely do this tour again when I revisit. If you get Jonas as a guide that is even better!!
This small group tour was great and so informational. The time really passed and we had a great time. Saw some beautiful sights. One thing not mentioned is that even though lunch is not included they do make a lunch stop - this would have been helpful to know in advance. The guide was great about sharing sagas and history of Iceland. Definitely a must!
I did this tour last December and it was absolutely wonderful! Gestur was a great tour guide, telling us some local stories about Icelandic myths and everything related to the spots we were visiting. The advantage of travelling with a local! We saw a lot in this one day but it wasn't rushing from one place to another but very well timed. Gestur always stopped for us to take pictures and for walks to get close to the natural sights waterfall, hill, etc. Gestur also took us for lunch to a cozy local library/cinema/restaurant. It wasn't an area packed with tourists which is nice - so you can take your time and take some nice photos. I would definitely recommend this tour to everyone who wants to see the west of Iceland including the beautiful Snafellsness mountain - my absolute favourite of this trip! See picture :
