Day tour of Petropolis including the Imperial Museum and Crystal Palace

The tour will begin with you being picked up at your hotel in Rio de Janeiro and driven in an air-conditioned mini-van to Petropolis. The first stop will be a visit to the Imperial Museum of Petrópolis, which originally built between 1845 to 1943 as the Palace of Emperor D. Pedro II where he resided during the best moments of his reign.

From there we will move on to the Cathedral of São Pedro de Alcântara, which was inspired by French architecture and dedicated to the city's patron saint Pedro de Alcântara. Here is the resting place of Emperor D. Pedro II and his wife Empress D. Teresa Cristina Maria de Bourbon as well as his daughter D. Isabel de Bragança. The main engineer was Heitor da SilvaCosta, who was also responsible for building Christ the Redeemer.

Following this you will visit the house of Santos Dumont, which was the summer residence of Alberto Santos Dumont, one of the fathers of aviation here in Brazil. The museum contains many objects, books, cards, furniture and memorabilia of the late inventor ( ticket bought separately )

You will then move on to the Crystal Palace, which gets it name from its large glass and iron pre-molded structure which was funded by Conde D’Eu, and put together in Brazil by Eduardo Bonjean in1884.

To finish the tour we will walk through the shopping district of Rua Tereza which boasts traditional shops. There is also many restaurants down the road and so it would be impossible not to stop to eat some traditional food of the region. ( lunch is not included in the price ) To finish off, if you have any more space in your stomach we will stop at the city's chocolate factory and see all its delights as well as have a coffee break.
