About this activity
We’ll begin by picking you up from your accommodation (if you’re located in the south of the city; if not, we’ll see you at a designated meeting point).
We’ll take a scenic drive up to the top of the Corcovado mountain where we’ll gaze in wonder at the Christ the Redeemer monument, one of the Seven Wonders of the World and Brazil’s most well-known landmark. After admiring the spectacular views across Rio de Janeiro, we’ll get the bikes out, adjust them as necessary and begin our descent into the lush jungle below.
The Tijuca forest was established in 1861 to combat the intense deforestation of the area for coffee and sugarcane cultivation. It is one of only a handful of urban rainforests in the world. And it doesn’t disappoint! With breathtaking flora and fauna to admire, this is one scenic bike ride you’ll never forget!
You can expect to cycle alongside twittering birds (if you’re really lucky, you might spot a toucan or a rare parrot), spectacular waterfalls and historic monuments and you’ll see some really special rainforest and city vistas that will have you wanting to stop every two minutes to take swoon-worthy photos.
And don’t forget to look up to see the monkeys having a blast in the trees above you!
After an eventful bike ride, we’ll drive you back to your accommodation or designated meeting point. Before you go, don’t forget to ask your local guide for tips on what else there is to see, do and eat in fabulous Rio de Janeiro!
Please note: the route is subject to modification by your tour guide due to A) weather conditions (strong rain) and B) high season for tourism (December-February) in which lines for Christ the Redeemer can mean over a 90-minute wait.
