About this activity
After pickup from your Rio-area hotel by minivan, head to the Tijuca Rainforest with your experienced guide to begin your hiking tour. Before you start, your guide will give you a brief overview of hiking tips and safety and then lead you to a beautiful waterfall that stands near the entrance of the park.
Make your way to the trailhead – Bom Retiro – and start hiking! Walk through the rainforest, learning about the ecosystem and its native plants and wildlife from your knowledgeable guide. The moderately difficult hike will last about 1.5 hours and will take you to Pico da Tijuca, Rio’s highest peak at 3,353 feet (1,022 meters). From this unparalleled vantage point, enjoy spectacular views of Rio, Guanabara Bay and city sights like the Maracanã and Engenhão stadiums.
Spend some time here to soak up the views and refuel with water and snacks (not provided – bring your own); then head back down to your hotel by car with your guide.

Such an awesome and memorable experience! I would highly recommend doing this hike during your trip to Brazil. Our tour guide was amazing. She was very knowledgeable about the area and kept a steady pace for us. The views were stunning and it was well worth the trip to the top. I hiked up the mountain with my boyfriend and went down with fiancé! He proposed at the top which resulted in some pretty awesome pictures thanks to our tour guide!
Our hike through the Tijuca Rainforest was amazing! What an incredible green space inside such a large metropolitan area. We really cant say enough good things about our guide Rafael Caja. He was thorough, knowledgeable, and entertaining. He paced the climb so that everyone could enjoy the day. Very professional. We would not hesitate to book Rafael again, If or when we return to Rio! We highly recommend this guide and this hike to others.
I loved hiking as a small group. The guide was lovely, worth doing.
If you like to hike and would like some exercise during your vacation in Brazil then this is the hike for you, the highest peak in Rio :- i still can't believe i made it to the top. The pacing is steady but if you need to stop all you have to do is say so, to avoid light headedness and muscle cramps. Our tour guide, Raul was very knowledgeable and gives you information about the place. He loves to travel and could recommend other places to see. My husband and I felt so accomplished when we reached the top and it became somewhat of a private tour since it was just the two of us who booked for that day so it was an awesome experience. I am not an avid hiker so for me this hike is moderate/hard haha! :- bring plenty of water, bananas/energy bars, and your proper hiking shoes.
Well I m sure it would have been great had we actually had the chance to go. Our tour did not arrive to pick us up at the specified time or place. Then when we called they said they had moved our tour to 2pm without letting us know. We had paid for a full day of a tour but were only going to have a half day.
