About this activity
Your English speaking driver together with one of our official English speaking guides will welcome you at your hotel or any other place of your convenience and at any time of your preferences.
This tour is designed to explore Rome through a Christian Perspective, Rome has many churches and on this half day tour we have sellected some of the important ones:
Basilica di San Clemente – the only church in Rome, built on three different levels, from the 1st to the 12th century. Our expertised tour guide will give a unique insight into the exciting history of this church and you will discover the beautiful interior, but it is especially notable for its three historical layers. The 12th-century basilica is built on top of a well-preserved 4th-century church (with many frescoes), which was built next to a 3rd-century Mithraic Temple.
Basilica of San John Lateran – here together with your guide you will visit the interiors of this most ancient church in the world. Due to the fact that the pope is also the bishop of Rome, Saint John in Lateran being seat of the bishop’s residence is also Rome’s Cathedral.
The “Scala Santa” (Holy Stairs) – located adjacent to the Basilica of St. John Lateran which are said to have been climbed by Jesus of Jerusalem himself. Here you are free to climb those stairs if you believe, and redeem yourself from your sins!
Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem – one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome, here together with our guide you will visit this 4th century church with its relic of the Cross, see a magnificent fresco in the apse. In the lower level, through St Helen’s Chapel with a splendid mosaic, enter the Chapel with the Holy Cross relics.
Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore – dedicated to the Virgin Mary is the largest Catholic Marian church in Rome. Your guide will take you to visit to the basilica are its 5th century mosaics, a reliquary said to contain a piece of the crib that once held the baby Jesus, an ancient icon of the Virgin Mary, the tomb of Saint Jerome, and the tomb of the artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
At the end of the tour we will drive you back to your hotel or any other place of your convenience.
The tour program as listed above includes simply suggested itineraries and sights, and can easily be further customized in order to suit your schedule, all your specific interests and needs.
