Great tour although take extra time to find the tour guide location. Guide was very informative, Diego shared his knowledge and having been before learnt a lot of new information. Well worth taking this tour, it was fantastic
Our guide, Rossa, was the most passionate guide. She gave us insightful information regarding colosseum. It is a fast track ticket. I would recommend if you want to beat the crowds, as the queue were ridiculously long on the day that we went. Tip: bring a hat and water bottle. A lot of people in our tour did not hats and their heads were burning from the sun. I would cover up as well as the sun was hot.
Due to circumstances beyond my daughter and myself we did not get to see it. We requested a schedule change and did not hear back on this request.
The guide was brilliant. She was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Wonderful insights were provided. On the organisational side the tour was 20 minutes leaving and beware that the company requires you to lodge with the guide your licence or a credit card as security for the communication device. I have not struck this anywhere else.
Very good tour. Our guide Silva was great and knowledgeable. The ability to speed thru the lines made it more efficient use of our time to explore.
We have been coming to Rome since the mid 1970’s and have had many tours. Our guide, Matej Polverini was undoubtedly one of the most knowledgeable tour guides we have ever dealt with....and we have had our share of both excellent and not so good. Because of both his knowledge and delivery he made the tour above and beyond what we’ve become accustomed to, even when comparing to this particular tour. Fantastic job !!
Okay, so I was looking forward to getting home to my computer just so I can write about how great this tour was! First and foremost we had ZERO problems with our audio gear so we could hear our tour guide without needing to be on top of her which was a huge plus. The tour started right on time, and our tour guide Flavia was AMAZING. She is a historian, and boy was she comprehensive! We learned so much about Ancient Rome during this tour and she even snuck in tid bits about present day Rome. She was great about giving us tiny breaks to take pictures and explore on our own, and was also very considerate about finding nice shaded spots when possible (Rome in the summer is SUPER HOT) I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, especially if you want a good rundown on Ancient Rome! The next day we took a vatican tour and we knew all about so many different emperors etc because of this tour. We really enjoyed ourselves, excellent value and great experience!
Skipping the ticket lines AND getting some great history about the Colosseum? SIGN ME UP! Our tour was only about 15 people and our tour guide, Dennis, was amazing!! He gave us some really great historical context about the Colosseum and took our group through the special gladiator entrance that you don't get to use if you visit on your own. It was also great having him for the tour of the Roman Forum and Palantine Hill because I wouldn't have known the history or significance behind a lot of the ruins without him. Really enhanced our experience! Plus, 3 hours is a good amount of time for a walking tour.
Our guide Federico was fantastic! Funny, attentive and as a former archeologist he really gave us inside info on the amphitheater (Colosseum), foro romano and he explained in detail the historical aspects of these places. Great tour! And we really skipped the line!! 5+ stars.
Had only one day in Rome whilst on a cruise. Had pre-booked a trip to the colosseum small group tour. Having misjudged the timing, I was able to switch to an earlier tour at the local office and upgrade to an under floor visit. If you only have limited time, this is the tour to go for. Tour involves a lot of walking and if hot, take water. The guide was excellent and by the end of the tour I felt I had been transported back to ancient Rome with a real feel of how life was. Thoroughly recommended
The Colosseum itself and its stories are great. The only reason why we choose Viator was to ensure a fast track with Arena. Otherwise, we could have bought the tickets at the Colosseum/Palatino website and walked around by ourselves. However, the great difference relies on the guide. Our guide Giulia seemed puffy since the beggining and she showed poor team work. Her hard Italian accent and accelerated speaking mixed with hundreds of noises captured by her microphone impacted the understanding of the explanations. Many times we could hear Giulia over the radio like if she was talking alone. Giulia kept that attitude even after I asked her to repeat the questions of other members of the group in the microphone so everyone could understand what she was talking about over the radio. However, the worst was to come when Giulia crossed the Palatino entrance in front of our eyes with part of the team and we were left outside just because - according to the guard´s words at the entrance - there was no guide with us. Showing Viator's ticket and the radio to the guard did not work. It was frustrating hearing Giulia´s voice over the radio so close to us and beeing uncapable of doing anything to go into the Palatino. We waited long 25 minutes outside Palatino´s entrance with the expectation that Giulia could rescue us, unsuccesfully. We then walked to the same office where we met Giulia and after 40-minute wait the team there scorted us to join another group, now with Cecilia as the guide. Cecilia also had a hard Italian accent but used to speak slowly and had a good team work sense. Cecilia used to tell the group when we should turn on left or right. Also, Cecilia stayed at the Forum Romano ticket gate until everyone on the group list was in. Those might seem simple steps to be followed by a guide but they make all the difference when you are walking along with thousands of people in the same place during high season. At the end, a 3-hour experience under a 95oF summertime became an almost 5-hour very tiring tour, delaying our lunch time and impacting our schedule to atted our next activity.
Family with small children and teens. Weather was over 100 degrees. We wished guide had told more history of the Colesuem and not most of the time in the ruins.
the tour was well-organized and on-time, and followed an interesting route through the sites. You have ti wear a head phone to hear the guide. On the one hand, this means you can hear him/her regardless of how close you are. On the other hand it got quite uncomfortable after about 2 hours. The guide had a running narrative about where we were and what was around us. If possible,I would suggest booking an earlier tour in the day, as the heat mid-afternoon is quite harsh.
Loved the tour, skip the line entry to the Colosseum, and the information. It was worth it to see the Colosseum on the floor and skip the crowds.
Since it’s July in Rome, we knew it would be crowded and hot. However, Ilaria got us inside the gladiator’s entrance quickly, and provided a fascinating tour commentary. Plus, we had a couple of welcome water breaks. Great tour.
Our guide, Flavia was excellent. Very knowledgeable about history of Rome. Her English was excellent and she was very personable. Loved getting to bypass all of the lines as well. It was EXTREMELY hot the day we were there. Bringing water is a must and there are many places to refill along the way.
it was so nice to go straight to inside the Colosseum and bypass the very long lines outside. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, professional and courteous. She constantly checked on everyone as it was very, very hot the day of our tour. She made a point to find shade wherever possible. Her knowledge of both he Colosseum and Forum was spectacular. This was well worth the price of admission and something you don't want to miss.
We all enjoyed this tour--truly just astonishing. We also really liked our guide, Claudia, which always makes a big difference with a tour. I was thankful we had the earpieces with the crowds it would have been impossible to hear ANYTHING without them. I saw other groups that did not have them. But, our guide's attitude and excitement was appreciated--she had a passion for the history and the stories and that kept us all engaged....she also knew all the shady stops. LOL. and it was HOT and crowded. Great job, Claudia! Cannot miss these sites! Epic.
Loved this tour and the tour guide was so in to her subject matter that she brought the whole subject of Ancient Rome alive. We moved through the centuries at a relaxed pace and the finale was definitely the Colosseum. Nothing prepares you for this fantastic structure. The guide really explained everything so well. A fantastic 3 hours.
Fi our tour guide was absolutely BRILLIANT! She was so energetic, fun and was able to capture our entire group's attention throughout the entire 3-4 hours. There were two children 10-15 years old and she did great keeping them engaged. This was definitely my favorite tour of Rome! If you get her as your guide, you will be in for an unforgettable experience!
We had a good guide with lots of knowledge and detail. The tour was well run and we saw lots of amazing items. Well worth the day out.
Thank you Dennis for a fabulous tour. Very informative, thoroughly enjoyed it. Kevin and Tracey, England
The tour was organized very well and the tour guide was a kind, knowledgeable person. We enjoyed the tour and can absolutely recommend it! The colosseum is fantastic and an impressive monument to see. Skip the line is just perfect because who wants to waste time for standing on lines when being on vacation ;) Grazie!!
It was extremely hot the day of our tour, but our guide was wonderful. He was very knowledable of the sites and their history and very good about getting brief stops in shaded areas to cool down. Learned a lot about Roman history.
Felicity was an incredible guide, and we felt like we were in the days of ancient Rome. Cannot recommend her and this tour highly enough! She even brought snacks for the group mid-tour, catered to little ones who were trekking through the ruins, and gave us above and beyond recos for our trip outside of the tour itself. Great experience - 5 stars!
Matthau was the guide for the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum. He was absolutely amazing...so so knowledgeable, while it was loss of information to take in and sometimes felt it was information overload he did it in such a way where he kept the interest of the group. I can not believe the detail I have retained referring back to how Matthau told the story! Such a clever man he is a credit to the company doing the guides for you. Loved it- the best tour we did! They even rang us to arrive 30mins early which I was impressed with great customer service from the start. Have always used Viator- you never let us down!!
What a tour, brilliant from start to finish. Our guide Azzura who spoke excellent english was fantastic and very good with the history of Rome. This tour is a definite 10 out of 10 Phil and Debbie Stevenson, Doncaster UK.....
The tour was good and the guide excellent and very knowledgeable. Getting entry via the Colosseum floor was also a pretty cool feature. With regards the company it was a bit of a shambles but ultimately worked out. I was booked on for 10am 3.5hr tour. Unfortunately (for me) the Pope was in town and I was informed the sites were closing at 12 and my tour could be moved to 930. As this wouldn't provide 3.5hrs I questioned this and was told it would be fine. I didn't have any other time in my itinerary therefore I accepted and moved on. We arrived on the day at 850 thinking we were really early but we told if we were disappearing for food we had to be quick as the tour would be starting at 9am. We rushed to get food and got back for 858. 900 passed as did 915. I asked what we happening as was told we would be having until 930. This was frustrating due to what we were told but again not a lot of choice but to go with it. When 940 passed I asked what was going on and was told we would be heading out soon. We finally left just before 10 but the communication was awful and very frustrating all around. As mentioned the tour itself was very good.
Took a while to sort us into groups with headsets but then Matteo guided us expertly to the Colosseum entrance whilst introducing us to Roman history. His knowledge was impressive and his obvious passion to inform us all about the history of the Colosseum. It did seem a bit full-on and intensive - would have preferred more time to just absorb the views and atmosphere. But there is so much to cram into the 3 hour tour and we certainly got value for money! i'm glad the weather wasn't too hot as there is very little shade and you will be tired by the end of the tour. It is such a unique location, just soak up the atmosphere!
Julia was a great guide and host! She was so patient as it was a rainy day and busy. She did an excellent job managing our day and answering questions! The small group I in was in was great. Shout out to Heti and her brother Thomas. Great use of time and money.
We had such a knowledgeable guide for our tour of the Forum, Pallantine Hill and the Colloseum. He was able to explain the expansive history and architecture of the area and also provide the political and human insights of the time. It was wonderful to be able walk to the front of the line and have someone whisk us smoothly through the process. The tour was paced moderately slow, which allowed time for questions and to accommodate a variety of ages and fitness levels.
Francesca was the best guide. She’s also an archeologist so she had a wealth of knowledge and really made Ancient Rome come alive in our tour. No lines or waiting as promised. Highly recommend
Excellent tour, highly recommend it. You literally skip the lines and learn much more about the history and architecture of the Forum and the Colosseum.
This tour was wonderful, Julia did a great job explaining the history. This 4 hour tour had a lot more information than I expected.
Diego was our guide and he was very good! Very knowledgeable and funny. The only uncomfortable thing is the tour company wanted to keep our ID or last case our room key until we were finished with the tour. No other tour companies did this and I dont understand why they did this nor did they tell us why.
