About this activity
Your Rome food walking tour takes you off the beaten tourist path to the historic Roman neighborhood called Testaccio, and ideal place to get a real taste of Rome. Savor its delicious food, soak in its vibrant culture, and meet the people who keep so many wonderful food traditions alive.
After meeting your expert guide, head off to discover the culinary gems around this must-see foodie district. As you walk, hear tales of Rome's lesser-known history from your guide, and see sights that many tourist maps miss, such as Rome's only pyramid and the Protestant Cemetery, where the poet John Keats is buried.
Visit the legendary Barberini pastry shop to try its mouth-watering Italian pastries that have been sold for over 50 years. Then, browse gourmet produce at a bustling local food market. While shopping, your guide will introduce you to some of the more colorful characters who work there. Make your own bruschetta and try real buffalo mozzarella at the famous Testaccio Market.
Continue your tour to one of the neighborhood's best kept secrets, Trappizino, to try suppli, every Roman's favorite fried rice ball. Sample some of Rome's best pasta along with wine at one of Rome's best restaurants for authentic Roman cuisine.
Further highlights include visits to the Giolitti Caffe and Gelateria, where artisan gelato has been made for over a century. Next stop is fantastic Volpetti cheese shop, home to 150 regional cheeses.
After eating your way around Rome's foodie heaven, you'll end up two blocks from where your tour began, approximately a 5-minute walk to all major public transport options.

My wife and I enjoyed this tour very much. We left stuffed and happy. We were able to try Italian food and learn about the history of Italy and the cute town we were in. I would highly recommend this tour. Our Rouen guide Luke, our tour guide was very welcoming and knowledgeable. I recommend coming to this tour with an empty stomach, you will try lots of delicious foods and wines.
We did Taste of Testaccio on our third trip to Rome. I highly recommend this tour as a change of pace from the typical touristy tours. We were fortunate to have only one other couple on our tour, a lovely couple from Canada that we enjoyed so much. Loved loved loved it and if you are lucky enough to get Manuela for your guide be prepared for a fun and delightful day.
Really enjoyed this tour - so much so that we'll stay in Testaccio the next time we visit Rome so we can take full advantage of the market and local restaurants. Thanks!
Francesco was an outstanding tour guide. Eengaging and fun! We enjoyed tremendous lessons on cheese and “Parma”. Learned about Italian pizza and how it varies across the country. Learned how to look for quality gelato. A great tour
Great tour with good food and little bit of history sprinkled in. It was a nice change of pace to the busy city.
This was a great experience. We did it our first day in Rome and had done a previous one in Florence. My recommendation is to pace yourself you'll be eating a good amount of food. Other food walking tours we had done normally do a few samplings at different places, and then you're on your way. In this case, we had finished several places when our guide, Erik who was awesome, mentioned that it was time to get lunch. We thought he was joking since we had already done so much, but the lunch was the best part of it. Well, lunch was followed by gelato, so that was pretty great too.
Our guide, Luca, delivered on all counts. The casual pace, fun stories, and variety of authentic foods put this among our most memorable tours. We learned a lot, too. And what a great way to see parts of the city most simply drive by. This was a first for us but food tours will top our list of things to enjoy in the future.
The food tour was outstanding! We tasted different Italian foods from MANY Italian Restaraunts around the beautiful neighborhood. Dominico was our host and he was simply FANTASTIC! He's a very talented host who made sure everyone had a great time. We loved him and hope to have him again for future tours.
My husband was working and I booked this tour solo. It was fabulous. The guide was great and food was also fabulous! Definitely worth it!!
My 14 year old son, 11 year old daughter and I enjoyed this tour. Giuliana, our guide, did a terrific job melding the history of Testaccio with its impact on the culture and food of the neighborhood. I appreciated that we visited local shops which we never would have found on our own. It was just the right amount of food. The other guests were wonderful as well, and inquisitive, which made the overall experience delightful!
Wonderful, unorganized tour with an extremely knowledgeable guide.
