The Ruins Of Ancient Rome
Variable
About this activity
Explore how the ancient civilization of Rome filled their lives with leisure and luxury.
This Tomb was constructed during the Reign of Emperor Augustus in honor of Caecilia Metella, the daughter of a Roman Consul. The mausoleum is shaped in a circular way similar to that of Augustus only smaller. The Tomb is one of the most well-known and well-preserved mausoleums along the Via Appia. Although the tomb itself is more or less in ruins it is still an inspiring sight to see. The construction is quite beautiful and is worth a visit.
This sumptuous villa was the largest and most luxurious residence in ancient Rome and belonged to the Quintilii brothers. However, the brothers couldn't enjoy the villa for long as Emperor Commodus had set his eyes on the building and had the brothers killed and took the villa for himself. The monumental complex stands over the Roman countryside and offers a panorama that through time has inspired many famous artists. One of the highlights of the villa is the well-preserved baths complex with a pool, caldarium (hot room) and frigidarium (cold room). Now you can also visit the small museum, which shows the history of the sumptuous villa.
