The suburbs of St. Petersburg are deservedly referred to as the “pearl necklace” of the city, and Peterhof is truly its main decoration. For a huge number of fountains, and there are 173 of them, Peterhof received its second name - Russian Versailles, but it truly overshadows its French namesake.
Gorgeous sculptural compositions, stately palaces and well-kept parks - almost all of this was designed by Peter the Great, the first Russian Emperor, who decided to found his suburban residence here.
