About this activity
Itinerary:
Day 1: December 23
Check in to your Salzburg hotel in the early afternoon, and spend the rest of your day in the romantic Austrian city independently.
Day 2: December 24, Christmas Eve
After a sumptuous breakfast at your hotel, your Christmas Eve is free for you to do as much or as little as you wish. The famous Salzburg Christmas Markets are open from 9am - 9 pm, so perhaps take a wander around the stalls, enjoying the aromas of mulled wine and gingerbread while browsing for last-minute gifts or gourmet food. Take part on our Silent Night - Holy Night Tour at 15:00 hrs. Return to your hotel in the evening for your Christmas dinner. Austrians celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve rather than on Christmas Day itself, so get ready for a lavish feast! Courses served at each hotel vary, but expect a festive meal featuring hearty Austrian specialties like cheese fondue, ham and sausages with sauerkraut (cabbage). If your hotel does not offer a Christmas dinner, then head to Braurestaurant Imlauer – a rustic brewery-restaurant in the center of town. Drinks (in your hotel or at the Braurestaurant Imlauer) are at your own expense.
Day 3: December 25, Christmas Day
Enjoy breakfast and then spend your day at leisure. While many of the city’s shops are closed, the main Salzburg sites are free from crowds, meaning it’s perfect for a leisurely stroll around the Altstadt. Maybe take a walk around its medieval squares and pose for photos in front of Salzburg Dom, the impressive city cathedral. Many cafés are open, so lunch and dinner can be enjoyed at your own expense in town.
Day 4: December 26, Boxing Day
After breakfast, walk to Mirabellplatz in the center of town, and then board your luxury coach to travel to the mountains just outside the city. In one of the pretty mountain villages, swap your mode of transport for a beautiful horse-drawn sleigh, and travel along the Salzach River valley, passing through many of Austria’s picture-perfect ski resorts. Head through Schladming, the town that hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, and then ascend the Steirische Ramsau mountain to visit Dachstein Glacier. Spend time at leisure in one of the mountain villages to explore and enjoy lunch in one of the local inns (own expense). Then, return to Salzburg, where your day trip finishes in the early evening. Enjoy dinner in your hotel or in town at your own expense.
Day 5: December 27 Check out of your hotel after breakfast
