Stop At: Schloss Leopoldskron, Leopoldskronstrasse 56-58, Salzburg 5020 Austria
Leave your Salzburg hotel and travel by luxury minivan with your private guide to Schloss Leopoldskron. Elegantly perched on the side of a lake, the castle is often considered one of Austria’s most resplendent Rococo buildings, with a sumptuous interior that mirrors its grand façade. Having featured heavily in the film version of The Sound of Music, the castle is the ideal setting for a relaxing late breakfast. Do just that and dine from a hearty Austrian breakfast buffet with cured meat, sausages, Speck ham, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, cereal and yoghurt.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Schloss Hellbrunn, Fuerstenweg 37, Salzburg 5020 Austria
After breakfast, hop back inside your minivan and relax on the 20-minute journey to Schloss Hellbrunn — an Italianate 17th-century palace — while your guide regales you with the history of the Von Trapp family. Hear about Liesl von Trapp and then see Schloss Hellbrunn’s gazebo where she famously sang 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen' with the dashing messenger, Rolf.
Duration: 20 minutes
Stop At: Pfarramt Salzburg-Aigen, Reinholdgasse 14, Elsbethen Austria
Hit the road again and travel to the Salzburg neighborhood of Aigen. While not featured in the film, the town was home to the real-life Von Trapp family, around whom the much-loved story was based.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: St Gilgen Mozartplatz, Mozartplatz, St Gilgen Austria
Leave the city and travel to Salzkammergut, a breathtaking region typified by Alpine lakes, scenic valleys and mountain landscapes. Stop for photos in the sleepy mountain town of St Gilgen.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Schafbergbahn, Markt 35, 5360 St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut, Austria
Pose in front of the Schafbergbahn — the mountain railway that was used in the film.
Duration: 10 minutes
Stop At: Basilika St. Michael, Kirchengasse 1, Mondsee 5310 Austria
Then continue to Mondsee. The star attraction of the pretty lakeside town is Mondsee Cathedral — a distinctive yellow-fronted church that achieved fame as the Sound of Music's wedding scene.
After roughly one hour, return to your minibus and relax on the journey back to central Salzburg, finishing your tour at your hotel.

Driving and walking tour of the Sound Of Music was incredible, Ben was fantastic and very knowledgeable, he paired the tour with all our needs and wants! The apple strudel was fantastic!
We are very happy we decided to take this tour! The exclusive experience of having breakfast (the food was great!) at Schloss Leopoldskron and having access to its gardens at the back was amazing. The rest of the tour lived up to our high expectations. Having a private tour was ideal for us because we had seniors who had difficulty walking. Our guide, Ben, was kind enough to accommodate our slow pace. Would give this tour more than 5 stars if possible!
This was a perfect day in Salzburg! My husband and I didn't want to be herded around like cattle on the big 'Sound of Music' bus although that sounds fun if you have kids and want group sing-alongs. We were interested in some of the SOM attractions, but we are not hard-core fans of the movie. It was nice to be able to pace the day to our liking. Thomas was a wonderful tour guide. He picked us up at our hotel in a nice Mercedes in the morning and took us over to Schloss Leopoldskron for breakfast. The views and pictures there were fabulous. There were some gorgeous scenic views on our drive and Thomas was nice enough to pull over and let me take some pictures. That would never have happened on a big group tour. My favorite part was being able to get gorgeous pictures without tons of tourists in the background. TIP: If you are prone to getting car sick, you might want to take something for that problem before the trip. Thomas was a great driver, but the roads are winding.
I'm very glad we had our guide, Peter. He made sure we see everything on our bucket list. If you are a Sound of Music fan, not to be missed. We also saw some of the Lake District, so beautiful.
David was great. He took us to and explained all the sites. It was a memorable and great day! Thanks David for making it so complete. You enhanced our knowledge of the Sound of Music immensely!
