About this activity
Our affordable Baja camping holiday departs San Francisco in the evening, with brief stops in Los Angeles and San Diego. Once south of the border the next day, you can sample fish tacos, visit steam baths, and celebrate with fresh lime margaritas at Hussong's Cantina in Ensenada. Kick back on the adventure bus with your new friends and take in the cactus-coated landscape as the Tortoise travels through northern Baja. Wake up to a fresh continental breakfast in the stark desert of central Baja.
Take a dip in the fantastic swimming hole, or visit the sleepy town square and the beautiful Mission San Ignacio. We move on to the quaint oasis town of Muleje and the cobblestone streets of Loreto as we continue working our way down the coast of the Sea of Cortez.
We head for some big city excitement in La Paz, the capital of Baja Sur. Spend the day on the water with local guides and swim with the docile whale shark, snorkel or scuba dive with playful sea lions, or go deep sea fishing.
Later, maybe a fresh lobster dinner, shop for Mexican arts and crafts, and dance the night away in a salsa club in the one and only Cabo San Lucas!
After two nights of big city life we'll go ahead and get back into relaxation mode. Camping at Cabo Pulmo is one of kind! A marine preserve with an untouched coral reef near the southern tip of Baja. Relax in the sun, stroll the beach for seashells, book a fishing trip or go diving before we travel northward.
After some relaxing beach time we will take a stroll through the galleries and coffee shops that make the Surfer's paradise of Todos Santos.
We will work our way north with a special Green Tortoise secret gem near the small fishing village of Agua Verde. A two-hour hike from camp brings you to tidal hot springs nestled in an azure cove. Other optional activities include a coastline boat trip to a small fishing village, sea kayaking to offshore islands, or a mule ride into the surrounding mountains. To wrap up our stay in the area, we enjoy an authentically prepared Mexican meal at Rancho San Cosme. if in season, we may watch whales at Ojo de Liebre before dining under the stars by a freshwater lagoon near San Ignacio.
Time to soak up the sun and feel the sand between your toes one more time. Our final beach location puts us on the northern pacific side of the pensinsula before we cross the boarder and say our final goodbyes!
