i forget our guides name (too much wine) but he was great. Made the drive out there fun. Wine was good at all 3 stops. The only thing missing is that the people pouring us the wine offered no information about the wine. Which was a little disappointing for an amateur wine drinker. The guy at the Castle was funny at least. The staff at V. Saturri, their only pitch to buy wine was for investment purposes. The food there was pretty good though. Mondavi was more modern and had a great place to relax outside. All in all, we had a great time even though we didnt learn much at the winery’s. We also had a great group of people that went with us.
I chose this tour after comparing multiple options from SF to Napa and it seemed like the best value. The scenery was beautiful, the van was comfortable, pick up was easy, and our driver Jan was the best. The only cons- marketing could have been better. We found out after getting on the bus that we could have brought coolers for food and drink but by that time it was too late. Also, Castello was gorgeous and the views were stunning, however they did not let you buy just a glass of wine, so after our tasting we wanted to try one of the wines out, maybe walk around the grounds, but we couldn't, so staying there an hour and a half was a little lengthy. The last winery was our favorite but we had the least amount of time there. I think the day could have been shifted slightly. All in all, good value and a good time though.
I loved the Castello di Amorosa experience with wine tasting. The red wines I tasted were excellent, smooth and full bodied. The castle itself was incredible. It felt old and looked old and I loved the chapel and the great dining room. I almost wished we could have had lunch there! I didn't care for Chris who was the one giving me wine to taste. He was not as knowledgeable as I had hoped. He may have been new but he told my friend not to have red wine with salmon and that is NOT RIGHT! Nowadays people drink whatever wine they want with food...It was tacky of him to do that and he didn't really care if I bought wine or not which is not good either. I didn't really want any commission to go to Chris I am sorry to say! Sattui winery was wonderful especially the deli and the grounds with lots of picnic tables for lunch..A great place for lunch. I am sorry now I didn't do a tasting at this winery. Please remove Mondavi winery from your list. The tasting was not $20 like Zack told us..It was $25 for all whites I believe and my friend and I shared the red wine tasting for $35. The gal behind the bar hardly talked to us and she poured each wine so quickly and didn't tell us anything about the wine. NOT GOOD! If you start the tour with the castle you have to have comparable wine tastings or all goes down hill for us customers! How about a few BOUTIQUE wineries and we can pay a little more. I live in SF and have been going to wine country over 30 years and don 't want the bus tours anymore but rather like we had a shuttle...Please don't ever take a tour group to SUTTER HOME, MADONNA or JACUZZI...I agree with Zack. He told us they were not great wines..I have been to all three and he is right~~~!!!
I thought it was good, first place I liked, the second place went to wish we stayed there longer, third place over priced and did not think much of reminded me of a funeral home.
I think that tour is a waste of your money....It is self- guided tour. I was hoping to receive some information about wine making process....nothing. Basically that tour is just providing you a driving accommodation including small lunch. In addition to our tour fees, we have to pay for testing in 2 out of 3 wineries mandatory which makes that trip ridiculously expensive for family.
This tour was amazing and worth every penny. Zach is awesome and very knowledgeable about the area. The castle was amazing as was the lunch outside in the picnic area at the second winery. This tour is perfect because the early departure time gets you to the castle before the very large crowds come in. I would recommend this tour. I will take it again the next time I am in the area.
This is a wonderful tour - Zach our tour guide and driver did an amazing job. The lunch provided was excellent! Small group tour - it was a perfect day!!!
This tour was fantastic! Our driver Zach was really knowledgeable. The Mercedes van was comfortable and very clean. The views of the 3 wineries were spectacular and we had plenty of time at each stop. Loved the wineries. Highly recommend to everyone!
