About this activity
Ride the San Francisco Bay Bridge and experience some of the most spectacular views in the World! A tour and introduction gets you started, and we include a comprehensive lesson and training. The tour starts from 210 Burma Road in Oakland and the pathway crosses the bridge to Yerba Buena and Treasure Island.
We start with an introduction and description that gives you a great visual of all the major landmarks throughout the Bay and the SF waterfront as well as the Port of Oakland and Berkeley Hills.
The Loma Prieta earthquake damaged the San Francisco Bay Bridge in 1989 but it was rebuilt in spectacularly fashion. This huge bridge was rebuilt with a single suspension tower. It is one of the most impressive bridges in the world.
Built at a reported cost of over 6.5 billion dollars, the Guinness Book of World Records shows that this is the widest bridge in the world (2015).
The bridge includes a multi-use pathway that is legal for pedestrian use and bicycles and Segway PT’s. The Segway PT is classified as an EPAMD under AB 470, and the pathway allows for a number of types of uses. Other scooters are not allowed.
Most of this incredible event is not just a tour. You start with a guide, but once you get to the bridge you are free to cross to Yerba Buena and Treasure Island at your own pace.
The pathway does not have any side routes, so riders can’t get lost, and the pathway eventually terminates at Yerba Buena Island.
Riders have about 3 miles of pathway before reaching Yerba Buena Island. After arriving at the Island, riders return to the same location where they started the ride. The total time allowed for the ride and tour is 3 hours.
This is one of the most spectacular Segway PT rides in the country because of the huge San Francisco Bay views. Great for people visiting the San Francisco area from other cities, as well as for locals who want something closer than skiing that is just as fun and exciting! All groups are trained individually and you do not have to ride with other groups on this tour.
