Stop At: Santuario Nacional Nuestra Senora de Los Angeles, Calle 1, Cartago Costa Rica
We take the South Pan-American Highway, to start ascending the Irazú Volcano, the tallest volcanic structure in Costa Rica. The winding road travels through fertile lands cultivated with many types of crops as we observe a lovely panoramic of Cartago. On the top of the volcano, you can observe the main craters and on a clear day, you might spot the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. As we descend to the city of Cartago, former Capital City of Costa Rica, we will stop at the Virgen de Los Angeles Basílica, national Patron Saint´s home. This is a peregrination site for many catholic believers on a religious tradition that is celebrated every 01st of August.
Surrounded by rainforest and lush vegetation, Hacienda Orosi is blessed by mother earth with springs of thermal mineral water. These telluric waters (non-magmatic or volcanic), are filtered between the layers of the earth and spring in the middle of the rainforest at more than 65 Celsius degrees. The minerals, salts and ions that compose these waters have lots therapeutic benefits. Hacienda Orosi is a mystical land where the positive energy is perceived as you breathe and enjoy the peace of this place.

Because of the terrible weather we did not even attempt to go to the volcano. Instead our terrific guide, Jorge, suggested a visit to the Doka coffee farm - it was fantastice, we absolutely loved it! Then we visited a couple of smaall towns in the valley where we saw how the craftsmen build and paint ox carts, realyy interesting. Had lunch there too - excellent!!
