The best place to enjoy the much anticipated Chilean sunset is in the Salt Mountain range, the location of the Mars and Moon valleys. The valleys contain a variety of stone, sand-like formations - a result of water and wind. As the sun sinks below the horizon, experience the wonder of the area and its close resemblance to the moon.
In the evening, one of the most expected moments is the sunset and the best place to appreciate it is the mountain range of the Salt, with its Mars and Moon Valleys that are saline and sacrilegious conformations product of the mineralogical folding that has taken place for one hundred million years and that originated small mountains of capricious and sculptural forms that at sunset resemble a Lunar landscape. We will visit 3 main points, starting with a view to the Cordillera de la Sal in the Valley of death. Incredible landcapes from the desert we can find here, and amazing postals too!
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Valle De La Luna, San Pedro de Atacama Chile
After the Cordillera de la Sal, we will visit the Licanantay viewpoint where you can see the mountains of salt from above. Beautiful landscapes, where the desert gives us the opportunity to see how great and incredible is it, full of colors and history behind its sand, rocks and mountains.
Duration: 1 hour

Finally, we will visit the Valley of the Moon, where 3 sites are visited. First, a tour of the salt caves is subsequently the salt statues "Las Tres Marias", the amphitheater and the large sand dune in the central part of the Moon Valley. We wait for the sunset at the Coyote stone. After an incredible scenic sunset, we begin the trip back to your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.

We took the sunset tour of moon valley and it was breath taking. The light reflected off the surrounding mountains is so beautiful. This was our second tour with the same guid. I’ve forgotten her name but she was very knowledgeable about the area and spoke excellent English. I would 100% recommend.
Great tour
Tour was okay, got good pictures, but felt the tour was a little too rushed and there were just too many people in the bus to have a unique experience. The sunset was so late that we just waited for 2 hours at the end doing nothing. Also many times, a lot of time was consumed waiting for people to get on to the bus. I wish they had a smaller group. Some of the hikes were reasonably uphill, so I would not say it is a cake walk with children.
fantastic and more. very good :
Having been on over a dozen tours across South America, I had found this Moon Valley Tour run by Turistour to be unsatisfactory. To begin with, I had not expected such a large group (of 16+) and such little intimacy. It didn't help that our guide, Leonardo, turned out not to be much of a guide. He lagged behind much of the way and failed to direct the majority of the group. With the itinerary I had expected drop-dropping landscapes, and the experience had fallen much short of what i had imagined. Luckily the sunset finale at Moon Valley had saved me from ripping my hairs out. The exotic crevasses in the valley gradually mutated in iridescent shades into darkness as the sun descended on to the horizon. Was it worth the USD$30 i had splashed out? Definitely not.
