We had decided that a trip to Cajon del Maipo was essential for our stay in Santiago and we had read up on the various options before we booked this tour. The first thing to say is that the actual place and setting is amazing and its worth the long journey to get there. At this time of year its worh bearing in mind that there is little snow and perhaps the landscape isnt as spectacular as in the spring. There was one very small waterfall. The main issue we had, and where the overall experience fell very short, was regarding the quality and abilities of the tour guide. His English was very limited indeed and he was unable to explain in any detail points of interest about the landscape or social characteristics of both our journey and the destination. He repeatedly made jokes about Argentinians and other things which was totally inappropriate and unnecessary, and he spent the bulk of the journey into the mountains chatting with the driver and another guy who we understood was in charge of the picnic. Within a short time of leaving the hotel we were the last pick up the coach stopped we were told for toilets and to buy water but it seemed that it was more for the driver to get his breakfast. After around an hour into the mountains we stopped for toilets which each tourist had to pay for- not much admittedly but seemed odd that on a paid for tour one has to do this. At the reservoir the coach then stopped close to where we picnicked so there wasnt a walk as we had assumed. The picnic was wine, soft drinks, crisps, cheeses and salami. No empanadas as advertised in the tour bumf. So in summary, a great destination but Id advise anyone booking this tour to check out the provider beforehand.
Beautiful experience. Excellent driver, and the guide was the best English speaking person we met in Chile. We had thought that there may have been another stop than the end point, but there was little time for that, given that distance. Definitely recommended.
Beautiful canyon but very poor tour. Tour guide completely inept.
Beautiful tour. Hector was amazing and was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed the picnic spread they provided while we were at the lagoon. We would recommend this to our friends.
Tour was outstanding. Frank, our guide and Jimmy, driver were great. Very knowledgeable about city and surrounding area and history of Chile. Having wine and cheese in the Andes was a pure delight. Highly recommend this tour and others by same tour group, Stamp Tours
