First we head to the Argyros Estate winery, where some of the oldest vines in Santorini are found, going back 200 years! Walk among the oldest vines of the world and discover how the intersection of volcanic soil, microclimate, exposure and varietal selection make Wines of Terroir. The Argyros family boutique wines are made in a way respectful to the environment, using traditional, low intervention wine-making methods. Our next stop, we head to the Koutsoyannopoulos Winery (Wine Museum or Volcan Wines) –a true paradise for wine connoisseurs and one of the most special places on earth. We visit their museum, a rare place without equal, nestled inside a labyrinthine cave that’s 8 meters below ground and 300 meters long! It took the Koutsoyannopoulos family 21 years of hard work, patience and perseverance to complete the wine museum and the result is mind-blowing! There, the visitor can catch a glimpse of what life as a Santorinian wine-maker was like and trust us, it’s much harder than you would expect and yet yields some of the best wines in the world! After the tour in the underground museum you can indulge in a wine tasting of 4 of their best, most popular wines!

Next up, the road takes us to the Venetsanos Winery, built on the edge of the caldera. The Venetsanos family Winery is unlike any other as its architecture made an ingenious use of gravity in order to counter the lack of electricity at its time. Taking advantage of the slopping ground, the wine literally flowed from the top level all the way down to the port through pipes and into the ships that took it to international destinations.
