It is considered that St. John brought Virgin Mary to Ephesus after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and that a small house was built for her on Bulbul Mountain. On July 26, 1967, Pope Paul VI visited The House of Virgin Mary and declared one of the pilgrimage center.

Terrace houses is another museum which is coverd by tent in Ephesus and has other entrance. Visitinig the trarrace houses is not included in Ephesus ticket. Another entrance fee is requested for visiting. Terrace houses of Ephesus is one of the most well-preserved ancient royal places in the world. Seven diffrent houses are built on four thousant square meters and richly decorated by mosaics on the floor and many frescoes on its walls. Each houses has its own inner courdyard which is surrounded by pillars. According to arhaeological evidence each houses have its own central water system and central heating system which is called hippocaust system in antiguity.
