The folk village is the equivalent of Sovereign Hill. Historical houses and beautiful gardens. A pleasure to look at. Great education for young and old. Can spend a few hours there. The fortress wasn't as exciting
We took this full day tour. The pick up from the Hotel was dot on time 9.20am. A small group of only 8 of us in the mini van with a Guide. We were not satisfied with the Guide. She had limited knowledge about the fortress and the temporary palace. She visted the fort after one year.It is worth it to take the tour. You must ensure that the tour includes the 'trolley in the fortress', as it is a vast area and would be very tiresome to cover all the grounds on foot. The surroundings and the grounds are lush green and well maintained. if you are on your own, do check the free 'shows/acts' that they have inquire at the ticket counter at the fort. The Palace is small one, as it was a temporary one of the King. Though well maintained and clean. The trolley tour around the fortress has the facility of a commentary in 4 languages. But you have to bring your own ear plug. The fortress grounds are in the city itself and the fort is not an independent / self enclosed within wall boundaries. City roads run in and around the fort boundary walls. The Korean Folk Village is a must visit. in the Suwan township. About 15 - 20 minutes drive from the fort. It has been built as a tourist attraction about 40 yrs back. And interesting to visit. Do not miss the free local dance shows/performances. When we visited, the time was between 2 pm to 4 pm. With a performance every half hour. Our Guide did not permit us to see all the shows. Which was very disappointing and sad. As after this, it was a visit to the Ginsen showroom in Seoul city. If you are on this tour, insist to see the shows from 2 pm to 330pm. The local cuisine lunch at Suwan was good. I had a local veg dish - bibimbap. It was better here than the one had in Seoul. The Ginsen showroom is of a local business house. A very posh and lavish office building and showroom. The interesting part of this visit was getting knowledge and understanding of the Ginsen medicinal plant, as to, how it is grown and its various varieties. It is expensive. So, I feel, one should do independent research as to where to buy from and what brand. At the airport we saw that Samsung also sells Ginsen.
This is a MUST!!!!!!! The best tour ever!
We had a really good day with Brian. It was a very cold day at the fortress, snowing. Brian gave us lots of information, he was friendly and cheerful. Lunch was really good and hot which was great for such a cold day. The Korean folk village was interesting. As there were so few people at the village due to the cold and mid week, we got to see lots very quickly. All up a very interesting tour and great to get out a bit from central Seoul.
