About this activity
In this walking tour guided we will discover the Cathedral of Seville, the biggest Gothic Christian cathedral in the world. Unesco declared it in 1987 a World Heritage Site and, on July 25, 2010, a Site of Outstanding Universal Value. Of the old Aljama Mosque in Seville, the minaret (the Giralda) and the Patio de los Naranjos are preserved since the original. The temple houses the mortal remains of Christopher Columbus.
They dreamed, why not, that one day it would be the best Chair of the Archbishop of Seville and future Patriarch of the Indies; that in it the most splendid liturgical cult of the metropolis of Seville would be celebrated; It will amaze visitors by walking under its Gothic vaults, discovering its multiform iconography, (painting, sculpture, goldsmithing, weavings, choral books, stained glass), filling the most diverse Gothic and Renaissance chapels, to later meet, in the backwater of the Patio de los Naranjos, with the bibliographic and documentary jewels that are kept in the Archives and Chapter Library, portico of a singular sancta sanctorum: the Biblioteca Colombina. Stone by stone they see that impressive "hollow mountain" grow, under the severe look of the Giralda, lady of Seville.
The perfect harmony between pastoral and cultural activity in the same cathedral, has earned an international recognition of UNESCO, as an example of current management and committed to both facets of daily life of the Cathedral of Seville.
