About this activity
Meet your guide at Jiangsu Road Metro Station and start your walking tour to Propaganda Poster Art Center in the former French Concession area, which contains over 6,000 collections of original propaganda posters from the 1940s to 1990s. It covers chairman Mao’s time and shows the political movements that were taking place during the New China era. This private museum was founded by Mr. Yang Pei Ming who started collecting the posters as a hobby in 1995.
The former residence of Soong Ching-ling is also nearby, and she is the wife of the famous Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Inside of the house, you will see Soong's life achievements as well as the history of Republic and early communist period.
From visiting these two attractions, you can get a better picture of Chinese people's hardships in old times. No matter how much they had and suffered, they still longed for a better life.
During the tour, you guide will take you to a local shop to enjoy a bowl of wonton. After that, you will walk along Wukang Road for about a mile (1.2 kilometers), where you can see one of the best-preserved European-style streets in Shanghai. There are a lot of historical buildings on both sides. You surely will appreciate the beauty of the architecture and the stories behind each building.
After the tour ends, your tour guide will take you back to the metro station, or you can stroll around by yourself.
Note: The former residence of Soong Ching-ling is currently closed for renovation, and you will visit the former residence of Sun Yat-Sen or Birthplace of Chinese Communist Party instead

I am reaching out on behalf of my friend and I to thanks for this absolutely fascinating tour!! Our guide Alana did an outstanding job in explaining the history and what we were seeing in the propaganda posters at the museum and throughout the tour. We very much appreciated her patience with our endless questions, and especially as we had her repeat a number of times as we were trying to commit the various names to memory. Her openness in terms of the history, the difference in view-points by generation and the government’s actions was so important to really understanding more than just the facade of the posters, and again, so appreciated! Sharing a lunch, the long walk and her openness to spending extra time was what made the entire experience really wonderful.
