The Moon Festival is also called Mid-Autumn Festival, normally starting from Chinese Tang Dynasty. The date is various every year, which is the 15th day of the August as Chinese lunar month. In 2019, the Moon Festival is on September 13.
As the tradition, Moon Festival is the day for the family reunion. Chinese people are grateful on this day, and will go back to the family for a reunion, no matter how busy they are. A big banquet at home with the family members is a must. The traditional food on this day is the Moon Cake. It is a kind of traditional holiday food. Tasting the moon cake is the good luck to all the families. After the family banquet, enjoying the lanterns is another festival activity as the tradition. No matter the kids or adults, all the people will enjoy the lantern show on the streets with a lot of laughs. People will also make their own family lanterns, and show on the streets to share the family happiness with the other. As believed, it will bring the good luck to the family.
Zhouzhuang is well known for its beautiful environment and simple architecture, well preserved for over 900 years. The majority of the town’s residences were built in the Ming Dynasties, and nearly 100 classic courtyards and 60 carved-brick archways are still in use. In every period of the Moon Festival, the colorful lanterns in different shapes attract thousands of people all over the world. It makes you live in a fantasy paradise and forget to return.
Every night, you will be picked up from your Shanghai hotels from 05:00PM to 06:00PM. On the way to Zhouzhuang Water Village, you will have the chance to taste the Moon Cake, the traditional food in Moon Festival.
