About this activity
Your tour guide will come to pick you up at your hotel in the morning, and then start your half day tour from the famous Bund area. The Bund (an old Anglo-Indian word pronounced to rhyme with ‘fund’) refers to Shanghai's famous waterfront running along the west shore of the Huangpu River, forming the eastern boundary of old downtown Shanghai.
Today it consists of a marvelous promenade, a perfect platform for strolling along the busy river. Just across the wide avenue that parallels the promenade is Shanghai's signature cityscape, a long wall of colonial-era European buildings erected by foreign governments, trading houses, and expatriate millionaires mostly during the prosperous and notorious 1920s and 1930s.
On the other side of the river, casting the shadow of Shanghai's future over its colonial past, are the modern towers of the city's remarkable economic boom: the skyscrapers of the Pudong New Area that include some of Asia's and the world's tallest structures, the high-tech pagodas of the 21st century.
The tour also covers French corner, and you will pass ChangLe Road and ShanXi Road. You will see the famous Moller Villa which was built by a foreign adventurer in 1936. The main building connects with side buildings, showing a unique scene with high and low steep roofs and convex and concave surface. The gates and windows are in arch shapes with their frames protruding out of the wall. The two main towers are tall and straight. Looking like a sheath with many windows on the top. And small pointed pagodas were built on the edges and corners of the buildings to make a harmony with the main towers, looking gorgeous. The whole building in a color of reddish brown was built with firebricks with colorful ceramic bricks embedded, looking like a wonderland. The rooms were in various sizes with unusual complicated decorations. The stairs, floor and wall board with Western style carvings were all made of teak with a color of reddish brown.
You will enjoy a lunch meal at a local restaurant. After your tour ends, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Great guide and driver, fantastic lunch and the fact it was only our party in the group (with it being a private tour) meant we could tailor the tour to suit us as we'd already done YuYuan Gardens and Old Town at the start of our holiday - so we spent more time at the bund and at Xintiandi
